The true love of Wendell's varied sportsinterests was that of target shooting, and he enjoyed much

Maritime Match, the oldest rifle match in North America which is competedalternately in each of the
Maritime provinces, (the match originated in 1874). Over the course of his involvementhe won many
awards and numerous Governor General medals. He travelled to competitions inOttawa and the US
many times and the culmination of his shooting career occurred in 1979 when heearned a spot on the
Canadian team competing in the UK National Rifle Association match heldannually at Bisley,
England.
During his association with competitive shooting, he nurtured interest andoffered support to aspiring
shooters and played a huge role in ensuring the continued success of the sport.
Wendell's success in the realm of rifle shooting was not solely in the role ofcompetitor as, during most
of the time he was competing, he was also playing the vital role ofadministrator to the PEI Rifle
