Ruger #1 30-30 dilemma....

So with Lipsey now announcing that they will be offering a stainless #1 in 30-30, the one I built needs to become something else.

So the problem is what should it be rechambered to?

30-40 Krag seems to make the most sense, any other suggestions?

Must be January and your spending to much time indoors.

Not rechambering but

A Stainless 1A in 25-35 would be very cool. Or 219 Zipper .

I need to look for a stainless #1

Simplest change-up is the AI version, which is a significant gain and you can hit the "Easy Button" for brass... on the downside, it would be equally easy to AI one of the new K1A .30/30's too... the Krag has been done, but I don't think in stainless... I have always liked the Krag as a pretty useful intermediate chambering.

In honour of the new crop of .30/30's, I have decided to abandon my search for the No.1-A. 30/30 and instead, bought a No.1-A .303 British, No.1-A .35 Whelen and No.1-H .405 Win... screw 'em...

Some day, another No.1-A .30/30 will follow me home...

^ buy those from Prophet river?

I was hoping to pick up the .303 or .405 at the end of the month. You snooze you lose.

What about 30r Blaser for the rechamber?

I’ve got a unfired 303 in my safe.... I bought lower rings and lapped them, bought brass and bullets - loaded them up and now it sits. I swore it was a keeper, but if I can’t bring myself to pulling the trigger I may flip it for something I will actually use.

As for the 30-30 - i think the krag is still leading. The old man shot a #3 in krag for years and loved the round. It’s rimmed, not all that hard to find brass for and dimensionally makes sense.

The Krag would be my pick...

P.S - that 24" Whelen is still there... I was looking for and bought the 22" Light Sporter.
