I took the bolt/carrier apart during my modding efforts on my FDE BCL102. Installed FAB Defense stock, Trigger Tech Trigger group, Magpul MOE pistol grip etc modding the new Raptor Ambi charging handle ears to fit, and inspect the ejector port dust cover (Mine fits nice no gaps or clearance issues like some were having.. Was going to install my brake/brake Shroud set but need a set of indexing washers to get it to line up right so am awaiting that. I am very happy with it for the most part however I did take the bolt/carrier assembly apart (didn't remove extractor/ejector just a basic field strip)to inspect and while the gas rings seem to me great in mine (can stand it up on the end of the bolt and it doesn't drop like was happening before to some others). However as I disassembled it I noticed a little spring on my work space directly below the bolt/carrier assembly pieces and am baffled as to where it comes from. It is not a part I thought was needed or was aware of in the bolt/carrier assembly.

This is the first AR rifle I have had but it's design is pretty intuitive and unless I am missing something it this just a stray part that got into the bolt carrier during initial factory assembly. If the more experienced could let me know it would be appreciated or where it may have come from. My workspace is not cluttered and I clean up and reorganize after each stp of the modding so don't think it was from any of the other mods that may b a part that fell out. I am also frustrated with the retaining pin used to hold the firing pin in the bolt carrier. It is a cotter pin and for the life of me I cannot get it to go back in. It is spread apart. How do you get it to go in? I just thought the AR's just used a pin not a cotter pin. I can't use it if I can't get that cotter pin back in. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated. Here are some pics of the parts.

The cotter pin is flared too much. Mine was too. Put the firing pin back in and push the cotter pin in as far as you can. You will need a thin Allan wrench to come from the back of the bolt carrier and push on the bottom leg of the cotter pin to get it in the hole while pushing it in. The cotter pin is too short and too flared but it works.

As for your spring I have no idea. Does your extractor function normally?

Extractor works fine. I never touched the extractor/ejector. This little spring is fairly light though. You can easily compress it between your fingers. Nothing close to what would be needed for the extractor. That is what baffles me about it.

Okay I got the retaining pin in. Thanks Throttle-monkey1. It seems to function properly now that it is reinstalled. Still curious about that spring though. Don't know where it could have come from. A little something extra from BCL maybe.

I installed a phase 5 bolt release on mine and on disassembly found some random metal bit have no idea what it was seemed just like debris. Wouldn't be surprised if some random extra.

Funny my cotter pin was buggered too. Couldn't get it back in for the life of me. Just replaced it with a spare one and zero issues. Not that it matters. I had ordered one of the brownells ones and its 1000x nicer. The gas key on the bcl bcg looks to have been formed by hand using a bench grinder.

same here. the machining is bad but so far functions 100% with the 100 rds input through it.
