What is the Procedure for shipping via Canada Post a 12(6) in Canada for Service

Firstly, not sure if this is the correct place, admin. please move if is not.
Secondly, this is being asked for a friend who is Not computer friendly. He also thinks CFO needs to have their operators ALL be on the same page when answering questions, that`s me cleaning up what he really said. Also I have read as much as I could find here reg. this before I posted this for my friend.

He has a 12(6) handgun in Ontario that he would like to ship to Manitoba, to a gun smith to change out the barrel to reclassify it to RPAL and do the Government Paper work and then send it back to the owner.

What does he have to do for paperwork supplied with the handgun and shipping via Canada Post? Some things he says he knows:

1) Canada Post Expedited Tracking, Signature in a plane box securely taped up.

2) Handgun empty, trigger locked, zip tied in place so handgun does not move around. Wrapped in bubble wrap to keep from moving and protection.

3) Is an ATT needed to take the handgun to the Post office and have it go on it`s way?

4) Canada Post says says can`t ship via air BUT Expedited is by air?

5) Is any paperwork from the owner needed as a copy included in with the handgun to the gunsmith?

Is there anything else missing? I asked this after reviewing as much as I could here about Canada Post shipping BUT it is confusing and I don`t like calling CFO because each time is a slightly contradicting answer or someone who sounds like they need a vacation to change their attitude.

Perhaps your friend should call the ON CFO and get it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Instead of having strangers' opinions relayed to him.

That would seem like good, reasonable advice. The problem I have found with the CFP and the CFO's office (at least here in NB) is inconsistencies. I swear sometimes you could ask the same question on three different days and get three different answers.
 
Ive mailed alot of handguns and have never been told it had to go expedited, it cant go express post. He will need an SATT to get it to the post office, mail it with a tracking # and signature required in a plain box. Its pretty easy.

Best bet to confirm everything is when he calls for his SATT to ask there is anything lse he should be doing.

I did that in AB, called twice, with the same transportation question. First answer "Yes, as long as....". Second answer "NO, absolutely NOT".
I don't call them with questions any more. Consult the official FA regulations, your ATT and go from there.
Canada Post FA shipping requirements are posted online.

I've also gotten contradictory advice from CFOs in different provinces. The laws and regs are ambiguous for them as well. It would help though it the Program posted a list of determinations/decisions to help ensure consistency.

Don't take anything you read here as anything more than just suggestions. He'll definitely need to call the CFO anyway to give name of gunsmith etc. and he'll need to provided verification when it is converted to a restricted anyway, so they can walk him through the other requirements.

In terms of shipping, Expedited is a business client service not available to the average person. He'll needs to ship Standard with signature. Technically needs to be double locked - trigger and outer locked case.
 
Enclose a copy of the registration with the gun. Most shops want this as proof of ownership and covers their butt to have on premises.
