It’s more costly to produce. The goal with the RDB was to make it simpler to produce.

Just another plastic gun...

Plastic exoskeleton to be exact lol.. but same thing. This is what turns me off from it, but its price tag is still appealing. I mean its only $400 more than a mini 14 and just as accurate if not better.

"Both guns heavily feature Kel-Tec’s square-stippled “Gator Grip” injection-molded polymer. Unlike the firm’s handguns, however, its bullpups contain a healthy portion of steel. Because the bullpup design places the shooter’s face directly over the chamber, Kel-Tec engineers guarded against catastrophic failure by mating the RFB’s plastic fore-end, lower receiver and lower buttstock with a 12¾" long, 1/16" thick piece of 4130 sheet steel that forms the rifle’s cheekpiece and the upper half of the buttstock. For additional protection, it’s reinforced by a 14 1⁄8"-long sheet of steel underneath. Because of the steel on top and the open magazine well underneath, any purge of excessive pressure or flak will be forced down through the magazine well and away from the shooter’s face. The RDB, on the other hand, utilizes a piece of 1/16" polymer for its stock/cheekpeice with a single layer of 1/16" steel for reinforcement underneath."

The Kel Tec website (https://www.keltecweapons.com/rifles/rdb) shows the same image as the OP as 17.3" barrel length.

It’s 18.6” long, the keltec website has the RDB-C in it with a 20” barrel, so look and both, split the difference and use your imagination. I believe our guns are currently in production.

View attachment 147607They showed an MLok forend for the RDB-S last year at shot show. Looked pretty cool, it’s on you tube. Also, it’s come to my attention that the info on Frontiers site about the barrel length being 18.6” may be incorrect? Would make sense for them to use the 20” barrel off the RDB-C to keep costs down. Man, I have waited for these for a long time, now they show up and I blew all my cash on my SLR build. Haha that’s life I guess. I’ll be interested to see what Vault is bringing in, they usually have the special edition colors etc.

Another dealer on this site received confirmation from supplier that it's an 18.5" barrel.
