Gun Shops In Eastern Ontario - Get My RPAL First, Then Go Visit Them?

Gun Mart in Tincap is a good option if you can sift through all the inventory crammed into that store. Couple good big and small stores if you make the drive to Ottawa, that hunting store in richmond, Cabelas, etc.

A friend has recommended Cabela's, they're on my list.

Gun Mart is actually the store I referred to in the first post. Ross has been very helpful and I intend to make the bulk of my purchases there. He's ex military as well, so we speak the same language.

I'm going to suggest a different route. Instead of listening to people who want to sell something, go to a couple of matches and hang around asking questions. Today EOSC outside Ottawa had its Winter Milsurp match. Lots of extremely people who are generous with their time and their guns. I've been part of that scene for 15+ years, and today I shot an exotic 5.56 I've only seen in pictures. Another time I was doing the sharing with an acquaintance.

You'll be surprised how quickly some guns you thought were the $hit turn out to be kinda meh.

+1zillion on this.

You can also get the chance to properly handle some common and rare firearms at such events. Heck, you may even be able to fire them! I'd say, bring snacks, some $$ (just in case), and an open mind and you're set.

Some people are also nice enough to meet up with you to have them handle some firearms at their residence/home/etc.

Interesting idea, hadn't thought of that one. Are these matches advertised on this forum?

I have a friend who has let me come over a couple times to fondle her selection of handguns while munching on home baked cookies. If others are willing to do the same, I'd be all over that. :)

You don't want to eat my baking! Almost every shooter will share or offer to meet you at the range to teach a newcomer about the sport. Ammo is $1 a round for large calibre rifle and half that for pistol. Don't be a mooch.
