I am fascinated by the sheer variety of firearms and I'm always interested in what appeals to different people. Since getting into firearms ownership a few years ago my interests seem to have settled primarily on handguns but even within that subset there is a lot of choice. As someone who is naturally drawn to history I started with an interest in Browning Hi Powers and then discovered older S&W revolvers. That naturally led to Colt's revolvers and they in turn took me to WWI surplus revolvers in both .45acp and .455.That morphed into a general interest in WWI and WW II handguns and a variety of Nazi marked pistols both from Germany and Occupied countries as well as the sidearms of the Allies.
Along the way I've dabbled in some more modern and interesting (at least to me) guns like Sig's X5, CZ's Shadow line up, a HK P7 and STI's take on a 1911.

I don't know about you but I've barely had a new gun for more than a week or two and the itch that comes from thinking about what's next starts to set in. ;) How do you decide what's next? Do you concentrate on a particular style of gun? Steel vs Polymer? Auto vs Revolver? Historical or Vintage vs Newly manufactured? Target shooting vs Action sports like IPSC? Do you concentrate on 1 or 2 calibers? ....... or are you generally all over the map like me?

I really don't know what's next most of the time. That's largely due to if you are talking vintage you never know what you are going to stumble across and when. Even with "new" it's often a case of finding something in stock and available. I don't think I've ever come across an industry where so much of most retailer's inventories are out of stock more often than not.....but that's a subject for another thread.

I guess due to the above I have more of a vague "might like to have" list rather than a "next gun". In no particular order I'd be tempted by.......

Manurhin MR73
Colt Shooting Master
S&W Model 25 in 45acp
A new1911 from one of the custom shops like Ed Brown or Wilson..... I'd be torn between 9 or .45
Modern 9mm optic ready poly gun like the Canik, P320rx or the Walther Q5. I've never really embraced modern poly guns but I know I like red dots and 9mm is a cheapt way to make holes in paper with a centrefire gun!
Sig P210 Legend.....I'd probably would prefer German over Exeter made.....don't really know why, maybe I'm just a Euro-snob ;)
An Artillery Luger or a Mauser Broomhandle....not sure if want can overcome cost in the case of these two. The desire comes and goes.

So, that's my Sunday morning rambling.

What do you see as next for you......and why?

For me I have very similar tastes as you. Most of my purchases are Colt’s and Smith and Wesson and other vintage collectibles. I find that most of my purchases are opportunistic. I typically have a few on my list that I’m always looking for but if a great deal pops up I usually have a hard time resisting. For me it’s all about condition and price and if there’s a high condition gun at a good or really good price it usually results in me typing the words “I’ll take it”. My last two purchases were a beautiful 25-2 and a Colt’s series 70 GCNM. Like you I am anxiously waiting for the MR73’s to show up.

Have you ventured into Colt’s SAA’s yet?

No, no SA revolvers yet ....another field still to be plowed.;)

One thing I am finding a hinderance is the increasing number of ads on the EE with no photos attached. Often, before I can ask for and receive pics a less "risk adverse" buyer willing to gamble has said "I'll take it".

It’s neverending... Another recommendation would be Smith and Wesson’s model 52. They are extremely well built guns and can often be found at very reasonable prices.

Yes, a 52 has been on my radar....just maybe a little further down the list.
It's funny how wanting a particular gun is often a sort of gut reaction. I also find that I sometimes run hot and cold. I might really want something but if I don't find it after a certain period of time something else often catches my attention.

I'm not sure sometimes if I'm just fickle or if I don't have a touch of ADD.;)

I know what you’re going through but am heading the opposite direction. I have never considered myself a collector but at one point had nearly 30 handguns, the vast majority being target semi-autos. Old rimfires, S&W PC Semis, Sig 210’s & X-guns were the bulk with a few others tossed in. I found that I always brought the same guns to the range while the others sat so have slowly been divesting over the last few years.

Don’t get me wrong, I still look and think to myself, “maybe that one would get out more”, but have learned that unless I have a specific reason for a gun it will rarely be used.

To answer the original question, my next one will be a Pardini HP New.

I’m on a personal mission to try them all....if i find keepers along the way...fantastic...cant say that I have hated any of them yet..had a few I never fired...the search for Eldorado goes on....great hobby..

I'm all over the place too, but lean toward the SA Revolvers. I really like oddball stuff, the more obscure the better. To that end, I'd like to find a Herters 401 Powermag, but that's going to be a challenge here in Canada. I see the odd one south of the border. I have a lead on some brass, then I'll need to track down some dies and be all ready when I finally find the gun!

Forgot to include a Coonan 357 in my maybe someday list. Obviously not a vintage or historically significant gun but certainly not "run of the mill" and therefore tempting to me.:d
