M70 winchester push feed????

One of my many cousins just received a push feed M70 in 308, I know these don't hold much for collecting but when I was checking it over it seemed to be a decent rifle, would it be just as good a as M700? is there any issues with these rifle he should be looking for, I am asking because I think I may end up with by summer lol
 
I have an older 1975 made M70 Winchester in 222Rem, they only had one action length at that time...long, so it is a bit of an anomaly. Best shooting 222Rem I've ever owned however, very accurate.
My brother hunts with a 7x57 M70 FW, also push feed, not sure of year, but nice gun.
The older M70 triggers were great and easy to adjust.
Still not a fan of the safeties on them...

I own a few, from .308 featherwieght up to .375 h+h, might want to get the trigger done by a smith......either than that they outshoot me all the time.
 
I've had several, still have two. Not a huge fan though, and I've been accused and convicted of liking Model 70s. Just not all of them.

However they tend to go cheap, and are decent rifles for about 400 bucks or so.
 
Competed and built many Push Feed Winnie rifles. Hunt with a CRF current production FN made in USA 308 for scoped conditions for deer. You will not outshoot that Winnie for a long while.... I’m a Winnie fanboy, and I still own THREE M700’s in our family....

And for today..... I do compete with an Accuracy International, so the Winnie’s are for hunting these days..... :wave:

Great rifles imo. Winlites, wincams, wintuffs, featherweights, XTR's... Winchester stocks from that era really are nice. 13.75" LOP. As mentioned too nice triggers.
No comparison to some of the plastic junk you see these days.

I've had a few over the years , really good rifles and I prefer them over M700's . Good triggers and they usually shoot very well , for the money they go for , they're pretty hard to beat .

Very nice rifle , I haven't seen one of those in years , bet it shoots too .

I've owned a few from that era of Winchester.
They usually are seen with poor looking wood, cheap low lustre bluing and a low price tag.

I had a 1974 vintage M-70 in 30-06. A very accurate dependable rifle. That rifle and I covered a lot of ground over the 34 yrs. I owned it. Decided I needed a new rifle just because and sold it. Always regretted that sale. Are they better than Rem. M-700..? in my opinion yes. If you end up owning it you will not regret it. The new CRF M-70's are very nice rifles, some of the best they ever made, but the CRF feed feature I think is highly over rated. I never had a moments issue with the push feed in the 34 yrs. I carried mine.
 
Very nice well made rifles IMO. of the 3 or 4 that I have handloaded for I was able to get good accuracy from all of them, but did find them to be a little more finnicky, and seemed to take more time and components to find the sweet spot than other brands I have owned. But like I said, got great accuracy out of all of them so no complaints!

I am one of those CRF winchester fanboys, BUT, I have a friend who had a pushfeed .308win model 70. I borrowed it many years ago for a hunt. During my sight-in I found it would put almost any common weight bullet into cloverleaf groups regularly. I refused to give it back to him. I told him cash is the only thing I will ever give him back. That was 25 years ago. I still have that rifle. It still is one of my most accurate guns. I just cant fathom EVER selling it. No shame in a pushfeed Winny.

I had a similar experience with a friend and a lent rifle. He had a bit of a run of bad luck and was never a high dollar guy, although that did eventually turn around for him. (Just in time to get divorced) Used a old CIL, then got a Ruger Ultra light which proved to be a POS then traded that for a new but dusty back-room old stock M70. That it was a M70 is just a coincidence for the purposes of this post but it was. Anyway, wouldn't you know it it was 4-5" junk too. I never could get that thing shooting.

He had a elk hunt coming and nothing to hunt with so I gave him a .300 Win on a Tikka hunter with a VX111 and ammo and said to keep it as long as he needed it. I probably never meant 3 years though.:) One day he showed up with serious wad of 100s and explained that he was never going to bring the rifle back but would pay whatever it took that we would still be friends. Wasn't taking no for an answer. We're still friends.

I hunted with one for 30 years in .270. Great rifle. Simple, easy to adjust trigger, great safety, mine has the hinged floor plate, its currently being re-barreled to .257 AI.
 
I am a Remington 700 fan, but own other rifles as well. 2 Winchester M70's are in those "others."
One is a recent manufacture CRF in 325 WSM....it is a very, very accurate rifle, and is not fussy at all.
The other is a pushfeed Featherweight in 7x57, and while not quite as catholic in it's taste as the 325,
with loads it likes it will shoot 3 into less than 1" at 100M. It is a nice handling, easy to pack rifle
that will most likely stay here till I'm gone. Eagleye.
