Shouldn't take 3 months to get on the EE, apply for access, participate in the forums like you are right now, and if you don't have approval in a week or two then re-apply, shouldn't take more than a few weeks if you are active on here :)
Good luck in your search, and if you ever make it down to the mainland a day at DVC in Poco renting guns would be a worthy investment, or you could always tag along to Chilliwack range with a bunch of us, you would see lots of different pistols lol

This thread should be stickified. Seems like the question gets asked often.
It is a good question too.
A great 9mm semi auto is the hk sfp9. It's affordable, accurate, good quality & design.
I'm also a fan of sig & cz. My .40 & .45 are sigs & my 9mm is a cz shadow 2. The shadow 2, in my experience, is the easiest gun to shoot well with

Lots of good, reputable dealers on line ( commercial) - look in their used restricted sections. Usually they will send you extra pics if you ask and they are accurate in their descriptions on condition.

Still some Beretta 92's out there in your price range, nice steel slides, reliable, parts available. My first was a Star Model B Super, nice 1911 style 9mm surplus - but impossible to find parts for. I'd echo the many comments that with Norinco and other cheaper brands its you get what you pay for

For the OP, you stated that you wanted to spend around $800. Several people have mentioned that the CZ SP01 is a good handgun (I have one and I agree). It is above the $800 threshold that you said, but here is one for $875. IMHO, the extra $75 (+tax) would be a very good investment.
