What's the weight retention like on Woodleigh bullets?

I just worked up a load for partitions, but I'm running low on bullets and need to buy more. I was originally planning to buy more partitions because I've got a good shooting load, but they're not cheap! I started w/them because I got a box for cheap, but now that I need to restock Im wondering if I should go a different route.

I noticed Woodleigh bullets from trade ex are notably cheaper, and if I'm not mistaken they're a bonded bullet... So should I switch it up and try the Woodleighs? What sort of weight retention are people getting with Woodleigh bullets (specifically the projected point, but I'm open to all opinions)?
 
What calibre are we talking about? I found the 250 gr. PP a little tough in the 9.3x62, but didn't really use it much. Woodleigh's overall have a sterling reputation.
 
I run them in a few calibers, and have talked with the guys at woodleigh when I decided to go with 340gr pp in my 416 Ruger.
Like said above sterling reputation.
If you look on some of the africa forums, guys love them over there. Also top of the line ammunition companies load them in there rounds.
Partition is a good bullet, but are priced out of the market now in my opinion. And Woodleigh are a great price

I recovered my .270 Sierra, Speer and Hornady bullets from the dirt berm at the range and examined them. And the Hornady interlock held together and lead core did not separate from the jacket and the other bullets did.

From that day onward I used the Hornady 130 and 150 grain bullets for deer hunting. These interlocks reminded me of the Nosler partition bullets for retained weight and expansion.

Yeah; what he said. Woodleighs open fast, open wide and hammer things. Best of all they did more live animal testing than most of these Johnny- come-lately brands put together. They were making bonded bullets before people knew what bonded was.

Most of my experience with them is with the 180 grain PP in 30-06. Shot up 400 of those on population control, but spread it across a couple weeks. They hit hard.
 
I do not understand the need to use Australian Woodleigh bullets. I have never had a problem at night using the Hornady .312 bullets in my Enfield rifle and putting down rabid koala bears.

Anyone actually weighed a recovered bullet? Curious about the weight retention...

At any rate, I think I'm sold. Now to contact tradex and figure out when they'll be getting another shipment...
 
I am interested in knowing more as well. I have the same considerations as the Suther but for 7-08. Nosler AB's working fine but can't put away the thought of trying these.

Noted that you are interested in 270...however if I am not mistaken, BCSteve has a 6.5 mm thread sticky with some Woodleigh results that may be of interest.

Apologies for the highjack, I am interested in any comments regarding accuracy as well as bonded weight performance. By above posted accounts they kill just fine. (IIRC Whelanlad uses them for some animals. EE and Dogleg positive feedback which works for me.)

Thanks for that. I checked it out, and here is the results:

Woodleigh 160gr Weldcore
Average Penetration (inches): 12.8
Average Weight Retained (grain): 148.9
Average Weight Retained (%): 93.1
Average Expansion (inches): 0.915

Certainly can't complain about those results.

The Swift Scirocco II also looks like a bullet worth looking at - amazing weight retention, and a high BC to boot. If I switch back to 130gr pills I think I'll try the Swifts...

That picture/results is what I am talking about. Having trouble ignoring that.

FWIW, Kelly T swears by the Scirocco IIs but his usage is 7-08 and 150gr. Having trouble ignoring that option too. 150 SMK's perform well in my -08 rifle which makes me wonder how well this bullet would work on paper and in the field...

Damn...it's like having a great girlfriend but 2 others have got your eyes... lol my wife thinks that my reloading "IS" like a girlfriend anyways.
