Why is this forum contaminated with BCL102 and other ###102 posts?

So an Inglis Hi Power with a wooden butt stock made for China can fit into milsurps, pistols, red rifles and even battle rifles?

The Dutch made a couple of attempts at civilian versions of their AR10, but suffered due to a lack of understanding of US gun law.

First was the "Armalite Sporting Rifle", which was based on the Sudanese AR10. The Sporting rifle has no flash-hider but instead had a thread protector at the end of the barrel. The sear hole was pinned shut and the selector markings were milled and re-engraved as "SAFE", "SEMI", "SAFE". Five of the Sporting rifles were imported into the US and are registed as machine guns even though they were intended for the semi-auto market.

Then came the AR102 Sporters, which were based on the Transitional model AR10. These guns had a purpose built lower with a sear block sort of like what colt used on some of their ban-era AR15s. ALL OF THE NORMAL DUTCH AR10 PARTS FIT THE ORIGINAL AR102 SPORTER. The Sporter lower receiver as compared to the AR10 is just like comparing a Colt sp1 to an M16. I have been told that the FRT references Sporter serial number 000031 as having been inspected. However, I am familiar with that very same gun and it has never left the Netherlands.

Two or three AR102 Sporters were imported into the US.

About at that same time there were four semi-auto AR10s ordered by and delivered to KLM airlines. Maybe a fifth KLM style AR10 was held at the factory. Anyhow, the KLM guns had the sear removed and the selector area remarked. The KLM guns were also lacking a flash-hider but had a rifle length barrel. I have personally seen the left overs from two KLM AR10's that were apparently confiscated and destroyed by the ATF after having been brought into the US. I believe one of the KLM AR10s is intact and in the ATF reference collection. One is likely still in Canada.

It's been driving me crazy because this forum seems to have dried up regarding anything M1A/M305 related since the BCL circle**** started.

Used to be a ton of discussion on loads, tuning and shooting here... not so much now.

I have precisely zero interest in the BCL/NEA platform.

There is a ton of overlap between categories in the discussion forums.

Black rifles? Okay, that's easy.

Milsurp, okay, all milsurp?

Pistols? Including milsurp pistols? Where do they go?

Red rifles, aren't these just milsurp?

Battle rifles, just a subset of one of the above...

So if I want to talk about my Luger, it could fit in milsurp or pistols.

If i want to talk about my SVT40, milsurp, battle rifles, or red rifles?

BCL102 discussion originally started in the black rifle forum, but was moved.

I think a reorganization is in order:

Milsurp, with Pistols, and Combloc as sub forums
Black Rifles / modern sporting rifle, with sub forum for M14/M1A, AR10/15, etc.
Modern Pistols
Sporting Rifles
Shotguns
Precision Rifles
Rimfire
Blackpowder/Antique

To me it is obvous that the intent of the Main Battle Rifles forum is to house discussion of post-World War II designs of self-loading rifles chambered in medium bore calibers like 7.62 NATO and that were designed with the military and police markets in mind. The classic examples were FAL, G3, M14, BM59, AR10, SIG 510 and Japanese Type 64. Of course development did not stop in 1964 and there is no reason that rifles from the likes of the IMI Galil up to the Tavor 7 and beyond cannot be included. Also note that not all designs were sucessful in the marketplace so if you have a Franchi LF59 feel free to show it off and ask questions, the fact that no major sales were made to military or police forces need not be a barrier.

There is hardly enough traffic in here to break up the forum. We barely create a half page a day of new post listings.

All this is a way of saying I am happy with this forum the way it is. A surge of interest in a just-released rifle can hardly be considered surprising or troublesome. Frankly I used to find it annoying that a category that should have a fair amount of diversity was so M14-centric (though that's the fault of our laws, more than anything).
