Hi
Looking for advice on how to get my rem 700 sa to lock the bolt when the saftey is engaged. I have heard the older pre 82 triggers can be used but not sure where how and if I can get one. Also have been told that rifle basix triggers can be modified to allow this. Any suggestions would be great.
Thank you

...my 700 BDL that I bought in 1979 locks the bolt on safe...my newer ones do not

Any 700 that has a trigger assembly that locks the bolt is under a recall. When Remington stopped supplying trigger assemblies that locked the bolt they still had actions that accepted the locking bolt safety, but once those actions were used up, all the new 700's did not have the cut to accept the old safety.

Blame it all on the sue happy citizens of the US. This was all done because of a lawsuit where it was argued that the procedure to remove a live shell from the chamber was an unsafe procedure as the safety had to be disengaged to open the bolt.

...thanks...didn't know about the 'unsafe' condition of my rifle...good to know

...started out as a 7mm mag...burned the bbl out of that at i think around 3,000 rounds and was rebarreled in 2003 by Ross Spagrud...same action with about 500 rounds to date...pity that the thing's such a piece of junk...might as well as tell the wife to have me buried with it then ;)

Look at the underside of your receiver, just in front of the safety. Is there a cut in the receiver which would allow the locking arm of the safety to engage the root of the bolt handle? Is your trigger group a Walker style, with a safety lacking the bolt locking arm? Is so, all you need is the earlier type of safety itself. Exchange safeties. Make darn sure that the new safety functions correctly. You could try an ad in the EE for either a complete trigger assembly, or just the early pattern safety. I'll go through my Remington parts, see if |I have a safety; have lots of trigger parts, but not all.

Sorry, no safeties. Lots of M700 trigger mechanism bits & pieces, but no safeties, no triggers (finger piece).
