Anyone Else Getting Disgusted With Browning??

A man should be loyal to his wife, but you don't have to be loyal to one make of firearm. Hell, there is more than Browning in today's gun market, there is endless amounts of great quality firearms; firearms in cartridges that you have mentioned. The Winchester Model 70 has really improved in quality, identical to the pre 64.

Ya,.. I guess maybe you are right track,... Browning has stopped putting out, so maybe it is time for a Mistress,... lol,... I think the Winchester M70 Super Grade would be a good one.

People want quality but most don't want to pay for quality. Fine materials, fit and finish doesn't come cheap.
Reminds me of a post here on CGN some time ago. A guy was looking for a "trained, experienced gunsmith" to do some work for him that charged a "reasonable rate". He didn't say what he thought was a reasonable rate.

Ummm..... You do know who owns Winchester now right?

Yes, Browning owns Winchester, however its Fabrique Nationale Herstal who builds them. A Belgium gun maker who also built Browning firearms years ago, and great quality firearms. Maybe they (FNH) should resurrect the Browning under their quality control, etc.

I did not say or imply that they were old school quality. Just that if someone still wants a wood-stocked, blued rifle, there are a few alternatives to the 4-digit ones. As far as Mossbergs go, I only have the 4X4 (Pre-LBA). It cost around $500 with scope. I knew I wasn't ordering a Sako. I was ordering a cheap gun that, by all accounts, was very accurate out of the box. What did I get? An inexpensive rifle that shoots extremely well. The scope came off, and is sitting on a 22, where it is doing good work. Would I recommend it? Yeah, without a moment's hesitation, with the caveat that you are getting an entry-level rifle with a plastic mag and trigger guard, as well as moulded-in sling loops. In car terms, it's a Canada Value Package Grand Caravan. You want a high end van, get a Toyota Sienna at more than twice the price. Want a serviceable vehicle that will get 7 people reliably for years to come? Get a Caravan.

jesus. Dont go that far down.

Weatherby offers a sporter in a plain wood stock for 3 digits.

Well I have owned four Browning's, a BL22, Belgium Superposed (both new mid '70's), Japan Auto-5 ('81..) & still have a '79 Belgium BAR Grade III .243.
I used them all as intended. Never an issue with either. Very impressed with each of them actually.
And each time others saw and handle(d) them - compliments would abound.
And they sure seem to hold their value if not increase in value imho...
I would like to hear the comments from members on the use and reliability of the new models...
Thx.

For real mossburg is known for shot guns for two reasons.. Decent shot guns and rifles that pattern like shot guns!

Saying well browning doesnt have what I want lets try mossburg is like sayin my brand of cigarettes isnt in stock. Ill try some meth.

Has anyone tried one of the Patriots? (Look, no way I'm comparing them to a Sako, Tikka, Sauer, etc. Not even a Rem 700 or Savage) I'm just curious, because my 4X4 is very, very accurate. The only issue I've had with it is that the pencil barrel heats up, so anything more that 3-shot groups requires cooling off between shots. But, I can guarantee you that anything I put the crosshairs on out to at least 300 yards (gopher-size and up) is in serious trouble. Come to think of it, doesn't Savage make some reasonably priced wooden-stocked guns?

yup buddy got one. Was trash. The bolt had so much play it was insanity! Miss feed all the time. He couldnt sell the damn thing so he took a loss on a trade at the LGS with it. He would get under 2 moa with it by a #### hair.

They do make their axis and axis 2 with wood stock.

My buddy has an axis... The trigger is like trying to pull a brick. He asked me to sight his rifle in. I thought it had malfunctioned. Thought the safety had broken off... Nope just THAT bad of a heavy trigger.

I tried an AXIS 2 and that was the last savage I will ever buy.. I returned it. Here is the "New" bolt face.

I have owned a few Brownings both A bolts and X bolts, I agree that most of their newer rifles have no soul, I have always leaned towards the utilitarian in most things that I own, two very good friends used to make fun of my love for plain vehicles they wanted Cadillac Escalades and Lincoln Navigators I wanted a basic Jeep, Bronco or Blazer, I have pulled on wrenches for a lot of my life and am no longer young, so a heavier rifle is very uncomfortable to carry, if I am not walking or canoeing I don't feel like I am hunting so I appreciate composites [plastic] used in rifles if the motivation is price point the result is reduced weight and I am fine with increased recoil, what is missing for me is the lack of a raised cheek piece on most synthetic stocks. I presently own two X bolts, two Sakos and one Winchester all stainless, four synthetic stocked and one laminate. The Browning's I have owned have always functioned and shot perfectly unlike a couple of Savages and a Mossberg that I owned. I am very disappointed in hearing about Sako ejection problems and Beretta's response. I too have looked with longing at the Browning singles and I do think everyone should own and appreciate at least one quality wood and blued rifle, my fear is it would just sit in my gun locker.

Browning is still leagues ahead of Remington, Marlin, Savage and especially Mossberg and at least on par with Winchester. They still make a quality rifle. The A-bolts are not their premier line for certain, but also decent, solid rifles. Also look at Howa 1500 and the Tikka T3/T3x line for quality without breaking the bank.

The early Belgian built browings are in a league of their own, and to mention them in the same sentence as Mossberg is almost comical.

How has the quality of Sako lately? I have fallen in love with the 85 Bavarian Carbine in 6.5X55 but I can't find any info if they use plastic parts. For $2000+ I hope not but thought one of you might be in the know.
I'm thinking this will be a spring purchase.

Smitten with these myself. Mechanical artwork. I just purchased a new one. No plastic. Rosewood trim instead. ;)
