Seeking forgiveness, I have seen the light!

Reliability is THE only thing that matters in a modern pistol. It's a close in firearm. 18" groups standing, rapid fire at 25 meters is good to go. Still 100% effective. But only if it shoots the first time and every time no matter what.
I used to snub my nose at glocks I admit. Then I started shooting friends' at the range. They are the pinnacle of reliability. So are many other modern handguns but the glock gets it done for a fraction of the cost of others.
I still dont own one. Settled on the 1911 after owning or shooting almost every other major pistol out there from the last 40 years of designs. The 1911 just fits my hand perfect and just feels right. But Glocks are outstanding pistols, just simple, ungodly reliable and dirt cheap.

I'm not a Glock guy myself, but I'm glad you love the gun. Buy more and shoot them lots and have a great time! :cheers:
 
Not a Glock fan (I even started a thread to that effect) but have been paying more attention to them lately. I will have to get one to see what all the fuss is about. By the sounds of it I will never let it leave my side. Well, except when it’s not “in use”.....which is most of the time. Thanks Canada for keeping us safe.

And excellent title to post segue OP, with the “seen the light”...

Look for a range guy to try out the 17 & 19's if you have a chance to see how it handles
 
Got a chance today to shoot a Glock 19, and its not for me Ill be sticking with the Glock 17. Size wise its just to small for me, I can completely see why it would be popular in the states for CCW but makes no sense up here for me to get one when the Glock 17 fits perfect. Just so people know the only reason why my Glock is sporting a light is I find the front end of the pistol a little light and tried to make it a bit heavier. I still prefer the look of the M&P9 over the Glock and my M&P9 hasn't had an issue yet, but I just can't get over grouping I'm getting out of the Glock, especially at rapid firing.

Now the issue is if I should keep my M&P 9 or sell it.

You should at the very least sell me a mag or two from your MP. It doesn’t sound like you’ll be needing them.

There was a chap on EE selling M&P 9mm mags recently...just do a quick search.

I'm with OP. I haven't fired my M&P since I bought my first Glock. It isn't my favourite of my handguns (PPQ M1 for comfort and 1911 for handling), but I love that it is reliable and easy to take care of. I have many now, including 17, 19, 21, 22, and 34. I love that breakdown is virtually the same in all of them, holsters are interchangeable for most, hell even some of the mags are interchangeable, if you count the G22 mags fitting in the 17 (wouldn't trust it, however).

I’m the opposite Doc!
Tomorrow I will cheat on my Glocks. Just bought a M&P Gen1 with the Apex trigger. My only other striker fired gun other than my Glocks. Not sure if I’m hoping for a one night stand or a full on affair.

PS I use G17 mags in my 22 with the conversion barrel. The .40 mag will work in the 17. Just don’t load it past 10 for best result.

Had a glock 17 gen 4, hated it. The grip angle and the horrible trigger can actually give someone ptsd. Got rid of it and a few other non glock pistols, one of them being a P30L to get a USP Tactical. 0 Regrets. Probably the best pistol on earth imo
 
Was never a big Glock fan until I got a chance to try a shooting compatriot's G17 Gen 4. He was surprised at how well it shot for me as he could not do the same. He put it up for sale a few years later and I bought it. It is not the most accurate gun I have, or the best rigger, but it is accurate enough and it goes bang every time. I swapped out the connector and the springs; she has a better trigger now and is still reliable. I ended up buying a JR Carbine to go with it; THAT did not go bang every time until the company replaced many parts on it (buffer tube, buffer, recoil spring, feed ramp, and action screws) now it has chugged through 600 rounds with no stoppages and no cleaning.

I got a crazy deal on a Sig P320 a bit ago; it was too good to pass up. Better trigger on the Sig and more accurate, but I am on the waiting list to have it fixed now so we will see how it works when I get it back.

Best pistol on earth for you perhaps, I've shot a couple, didn't find it to be a life changing experience :)
A pistol is only as good as you shoot it,, for me, I will stick with my Glock, for you it's the USP, for others it's a Shadow or a 1911
Pistols are so damn personal :)

So true...love Hk..hate the grip on the USP series...funny...never found ‘grip angle’ a thing I even notice ...certainly doesn’t effect my shooting..triggers..well yes..there are better..and there are improvements..but it’s not the worst I’ve had to deal with..

As the owner of the USP that edgy shot and import sold to me, I have to say I love it! The chunky gun just looks so cool. Trigger is good in SA and the gun is so accurate. It just puts rounds into the same hole!
Reason I don’t shoot it more is cost of .40 ammo and I don’t like competing with guns that have safeties and levers all over the place.
 
I resisted the plastic fantastic for quite some time, being a 1911/BHP/CZ75 kind of guy and also having a brief fling with an original West German police P226 that got traded off to pick up a Ruger .44 Mag SBH for my Dad for Father's Day. I came across a deal on a like-new G23 prohib that I couldn't turn down and since everyone was going on about how reliable they were (this was 1995) I decided to see for myself. 5400 rounds later I decided I should clean it for real - up to this point it had been a blast of WD-40 into the back of the slide with an attendant running of black crap out the front every 500-1000 rounds or so. It's been stone cold reliable with any stoppages being related to a poor grip by new shooters and the extractor hook being broken at around 20K rounds.

I went from having 1 to having 6 or 7 in a matter of a year, now down to 3 (23/17/20) and while it's not my favorite polymer people popper, it certainly does the trick, although I view it to other pistols with character as I view vodka in the booze world. Colourless, odourless, tasteless and without much character. I never feel sad about selling one, though I have managed to hold on to the 23 throughout and it's somewhere north of 50K rounds by now...
 
Meh, I have 2 Glocks and have shot a number of other peoples too. While they usually work reliably (although they are not perfect) they are still some of my least favorite handguns to shoot. But that's why guns come in all shapes and sizes, you get to pick what you like. :)
 
I have a new to me joe dlask ported G17 gen 4 with doctor iii I have yet to shoot...hoping it will impress..looks the part..I will be seeking therapy...
 
it was the last polymer pistol I bought after avoiding it for years and bashing it here for lack of looks and ergos. It is now my go to pistol for everything else that is not competitive shooting (I have other platforms I prefer to shoot for that).

Never had any issues with these G17s, I like them a lot. Simplicity is king.
