VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Well the company that builds these, is willing to ship……they have a lot of cool stuff. My camera battery was dead so I couldn’t take any pictures when I was there. I was pissed because they had RPGs PKMs RPKs, etc and BRDMs outside.
These 58 clones are under a completely different name and the semi-auto trigger mechanism is different from the 858 and the CZH 2003 that are currently in Canada.
As for the cost (KevinB) in Czech they retail for about 8600 crowns which is around 505 dollars. So you can compare to the 858 tactical that retails in Czech for around7200 crowns or 423 dollars.

No. But the factory could make one, and it would be fine if it is marked and marketed as a pistol. However, the magazine would have to be five shot unless redesigned and marked for a pistol. Think Questar saga.

I did not want to post it in a separate thread so here it is.
Imagine the scenario:
You pull the trigger , the rifle fires , the casing breaks in half inside the chamber , the rear part gets ejected the front one still in the chamber.
The action cycles , you have another round half way ( or whatever percentage of it) in the chamber , you pull the trigger and the rifle WILL fire out of battery. This happens because the auto sear is not present. The auto sear would hold the striker until the bolt completely closes preventing out of battery fire. Try it yourself. Make the firearm safe , charge the bolt and on its way back place a penny or a nickel at the mouth of the chamber , pull the trigger... . Am I right ?

The way the CZ is designed, the striker cannot reach the firing pin until the bolt is closed and locked. This is to explicitly prevent out of battery firing. I am not aware of a situation where the CZ could fire OOB.

You are absolutely right , the striker will not reach the firing pin until the bolt is totally closed and locked in the receiver rails. Case solved , sorry for the false alarm , we are safe:D .

Here's some pics of mine that I have done up. I think it needs a better mount for the reflex sight. I find on the forward handgaurd it does not hold zero. If you remove the handgaurd for cleaning the gas system it looses zero agian. Anyone know of a better mount?

Other than that it is a great shooter. I have the quad rail forward handgaurds, muzzle break, folding stock. Jackie Six doctor optic clone reflex sight. The muzzle break makes a significant difference on recoil and accuracy with double taps. I find Im shooting this rifle more than my AR.......not going to say its taking over as my favorite, but it definately has my interest.

I have thought of adding a forward vertical grip, but I find that just infront of the magazine is an excellent place to hold the rifle for balance. Do you guys think the forward grip is worth while?
