1911 vs Glock and 9mm vs 45

A 1911 in 9mm feels almost like a 1911 in 22LR, in recoil. I had both in the past and sold them. They did not feel right, even if they functioned reliably and were reasonably accurate.

For the same reason I like the Glock in 9mm, I like the 1911 in .45ACP. Optimum caliber for the given frame/platform.

I agree about the 1911!

Nothing wrong with Glock, but I'm not a plastic guy. 9mm is fun and easy to master, cheap ammo and cheap to reload; with an all steel gun recoil is minimal. 1911 fits my hand so well. .45 is a lot of fun; it blows real-big holes in paper really, really big if you use semi wadcutters; ammo is expensive to buy, not so bad to reload, and being a bit bigger, slightly easier to reload too.

I have both, I like both... now I want a 40.

For metal guns i stick with revolvers. For semis i use glocks cause they just always work lol.

Now you’re talking! I’m a fan of the 40, have been since the first shot on my Ruger P91. Power and accuracy. My FNS40L is a joy to shoot. 2 inch 10-shot groups at 15 meters, shooting 180 grain Lee truncated tumble lube over 4.7 Titegroup.

Sad because the 40 has fallen out of favour with the FBI, thus with shooters in general, but glad because 40 pistols are cheap these days. Easy to reload for and has a recipe that is very close to 10mm in ballistics. Brass is hard to find though. Hardly anyone shoots 40 at my club, but I was picking up brass at the range when it was still popular.

I ordered a 40 today; price I could not refuse!!!... and I have about 1500 empty .40 brass LOL! Hard to find? It just keeps falling in my lap! .45 brass is hard to find.
 
Glock in 40sw because 9mm is for pussies and 45acp lacks capacity.

On a serious note, I wouldn't trust my life on a 1911.

Still drinking that kool aid huh?? You realize the 40 is a dead calibre and has been for a few years now. There is no gain in the 40 or 45 over 9mm. What 9mm does give you is more rounds, less recoil, smaller guns(compared to .45's) and a longer service life.

It’s no dead caliber in my house.....40 ballistics May not be the best...but it’s a hoot to shoot..and I for one am going to keep on preferring it....besides...when ammo runs out on the shelves...I’m still out there pew..pew..so stick to your 9mm...and I’ll keep on .40

Same here. I've had a token .40 cal pistol since 2009 and added a couple more last year. It has recently become my favorite caliber, FBI notwithstanding. Possible shorter pistol life, real or perceived, doesn't matter because spare .40cal pistols are cheap anyways. May even get cheaper as more shooters dump them because of their "dead" caliber. Guess they are thinking ammo will not be available in the future. Maybe they are right, but I cast and reload so ammo supply is a non-issue. .40 brass can still be bought although range brass is getter scarcer.

Dead or not, they still shoot. I still shoot my .38 S & W, and guys still shoot their .455 Weblies too.

Shoot what tickles your fancy! Running out of ammo happens to the ill prepared regardless of calibre. 9mm is NATO standard so I highly doubt it will ever become scarce.

Not possible shorter life, tested and verified to be a shorter life, by about half. Cheap guns or not, a broken gun is not a fun time nor financially sound. The cost of ammo for 40 will go up just like the cost of 38 and 357 did after the great switch from dinosaurs(revolvers) to modern autos. Reloading saves but it isn't an option for everyone and it still won't be as cheap as 9mm to reload.
