Almost bought a MArlin XT-22...

So as the title stated I had mostly come to a decision to buy a Marlin rimfire. The quality seemed decent for the money.
Then all of a sudden Remington ( parent company to Marlin) goes and files for bankruptcy. A little nervous that I may end up with a rifle that isnt supported in terms of warranty. Is that a legitimate concern?
Main purpose was going to be for target shooting and plinking once in a while.
If anyone would be willing to lend some advice on alternatives, or soothe my fears, that would be great.

I've had a few marlin rimfires over the years and all have been very accurate and dependable. As for warranty in Canada, it's a company out of Quebec called Gravel agency that deals with warranty work for them.
They also distribute and deal with alot of other companies, so I'm sure they will still be dealing with Remington warrantys no matter what happens.
I wouldn't be worried about it.
 
No real concern. There have been hundreds of thousands of rifles sold by Marlin so there are a lot of parts kicking around. It also helps that many of their parts are interchangeable with other models. For example, their magazines are the same for the XT, Papoose, 795 and even 2000. I found that the bolt from my XT fits into and can be used in my 2000 even though they look completely different.

People buy discontinued guns all the time. Take a look at Cooey's, there are still a bunch of parts that are available. I think there are enough Marlin parts for the next couple hundred years. I personally think if Rem does file, Marlin will be separatly bought up by another group because their lever actions and rimfire are good sellers. The model 60 is the top selling .22 rifle in the world. They out sell Ruger 10/22 by quite a bit. When picking up a Marlin, the real question should be if whether the rifle was made prior to or after Rem's take over. The pre take over rifles are far better quality than the newer ones.

BTW, on some of the American forms, people are talking about buying more Remington firearms in anticipation that they will become collector items after the company goes bankrupt.
 
Good to hear I should be ok. Probably just overthinking the whole thing. The one I was looking at is a new one from Canadian Tire. So In guessig its a Remington Produced firearm. Hopefully it doesnt have the remlin bug. If and when I end up with it that is. Lol. Thanks for the replys guys.
 
I've been lucky over the years and never had any issues or had to deal with warranty with the 20-25 firearms I've owned. A buddy of mine has dealt with quite a few manufacturers with warranty work (he's very hard on guns) and he said the worst ones to deal with were Browning. He bought a brand new blr in 223 a few years ago and tried every ammo he could get his hands on and it just wouldn't group.
The best 5 shot groups he could get at 50 yds were around 8".
He took the rifle back to where he bought it and they sent it in for warranty. After a year and a half they still hadn't even looked at it, and the seller ended up giving him a full refund. I'm not saying this is common with Browning, cause I don't know, but that was absolutely rediculous.
 
In addition to all the good reasons above, I’d say that at the price point of XT22s, it is no big deal...buy it and enjoy it. It’s not likely to need warranty work or parts anyway. I won’t agonize over a $300 decision like I would over an $1,800 Annie.
 
I only had to ever warranty a Ruger pistol. That was due to poor machining, and miss drilling.

But other than that only gun that would been able to warranty because most of them are 30-40 years. I like my older Marlin.
 
I wouldn't worry about it. I've read accounts about people who are having second thoughts about buying an 870, concerned about parts availability down the road. Conservative estimates on the number of those produced exceeds about 11,000,000. Doesn't seem like an overly risky purchase.

Marlins are very decent guns, I wouldn't hesitate to pick-up an XT if that's what you're wanting.
 
I own a Marlin 981T that rarely gets shot anymore. (I think the XT is a newer and better version of the rifle?) I re-mounted the 981T's scope a few months ago(after borrowing it for another rimfire) but never got around to dialing it in....until today. I was reminded how accurate the micro-grove barrel is shooting ragged one holers at 25yds with ease using cheap Win Wildcats. I save my better ammo for my other rimfires :)

If the XT's shoot as good you will not be disappointed.....
 
Well guys, I bought it. And shot probably almost 70 rounds through it. Was getting 2 inch ish groups at 25 yards with iron sights.
Im thinking probably I will scope it. But see what ends up happening. Overall I am pretty happy with it.

They are a nice rifle; enjoy it!
 
Haves xt-22vr, love it. Still need to work on getting to group better... sometimes I can nail sub MOA and sometimes I can’t. But I’ve shot a clay pigeon at 285 with shots.

For 265 it was too cheap not to buy!!

Now start playing with different ammo, until they all start going in the same hole. It may not be the sights, ammo makes a lot of difference!
 
I also bought an XT for a young shooter starting out. have had no probs. this will be season 4 this spring for gophers. its a very accurate relaiable lil rifle. liked it so much we got another for his sister

^this. I'd scope it anyway (variable scope, 4-12X range, adjustable objective)..pick-up a pile of ammo types to try. For target shooting/tight groups, focus on standard velocity ammo. CCI Standard Velocity, CCI LR HP, SK Standard, Federal Gold Medal, etc. Unless there is a problem with the gun (highly doubtful)...you should be able to cover 50 yard groups with a loonie. With practice, and the right ammo...probably even better.

From there, test-out the faster stuff.
 
Mine loves the CCI blazers and CCI mini mag 36gr hollow points. It also liked one lot of the federal automatch. Mine will shoot a cloverleaf at 25 and a inch or less at 50. Got a 3-9 Nikon rimfire scope on it, the adjustable parallax and duplex reticle one. I'd highly recommend that scope maybe 4-12X if you can find it. It's great for the money.
