470 capstick

SF...........I'm at a loss as to the relevance of your photo showing the 375, 416 and 458 bullet............The OP was asking about the 470 Capstick and the conversation is about that cartridge..........

If you are looking for "ink on vellum," Slamfire is your guy....

I'm just a redneck with a love for guns. Don't know what skin comment means but I like to kill my game animals with light. I've found the more light I let in (big entrance big exit holes) them the faster they die

I do enjoy shooting big bores. With a side of quarter bores too

Here's what the designer (not a phoney baloney:p ), A-Square's LTC Alphin, says about the 470 Capstick.

He has me convinced...........let's see, I have a barrel.....I have about 400 cases.....I have about 500 bullets.......I have several suitable actions.......unfortunately I do not have a reamer, but I do have a 475-416 Rigby reamer, case shortened to 2.70. But alas I have no suitable actions for this cartridge. Well I have one and it is a 602 Brno which is currently my 416 Rigby which I'm not willing to sacrifice at this time, and I only have about 150 Rigby cases, again none of which I'm willing to sacrifice at this time.
Maybe I'll call Dave Kiff and see if he has a 475 Ackley/470 Capstick reamer ready to go.......God knows a man can't have too many thumpers, what with the scientists threatening to clone/reintroduce the Mammoth, I sure as hell want to be prepared for the first open hunting season.
Now watch, the next thread will be......"Is the 223/5.56 adequate for mammoth"

.223 for mammoth??? YES!

With a TSX there is no difference between the .223 wound channel and the Capstick wound channel through blocks of firewood...

What's a good price for a cz550 375hh action and stock? The barrel is bulged at about 15". Apparently a round didn't have much powder and my buddy thought his new ear muffs were amazing and fired another round

Check the stock for cracks first... if it is good, about $400.

Yep BB, check the stock but you should also have a smith check the lugs for setting into the action recess. That is about the worst case scenario for damaging a rifle, your buddy is lucky it was a high quality modern action..........consequences could have been dire.......

Hard to imagine the action isn't damaged beyond repair. The bolt lugs and/or lug recesses might have yielded under the extreme pressure. Micro-cracks have a nasty habit of propagating. I've seen some catastrophic failures in piping and pressure vessels resulting from crack defects.

Speaking of a damaged firearm, the 470 Capstick and Art Alphin, he currently does consulting as a firearms & ballistics expert. He could advise on whether that CZ550 action is salvageable. Very interesting website, check out his extensive experience and expertise.

However, that undertaking would be cost-prohibitive at US$250 per hour for his professional services because a new CZ550 goes for only about CDN$1200.

See in his case histories Long Island Shooter v. Everybody. A firearm that was damaged in a similar manner to the CZ550.

He had it checked out and it was good to go. They were reduced loads. The new barrel with sights installed and put together came out almost the same price as a new rifle so he decided to buy a new rifle in 30/06. The 375 had him flinching and now I think he's just to scared although he won't admit it
