Famae SG 542 unboxing.

Ensure that you use low rings and a scope with smaller ocular and objective bells (or no bell).
I’d choose a scope that has a decent amount of eye relief too so you don’t have to located it above the rear sight drum.
If you are above the sight drum you’ll be faced with either getting an add on cheek piece or settling for a chin weld.

I just stuck with irons on mine, although I'm just using it at the range. I like the Cold War-era look.

Even this is too high.
If you’re set on a large variable, you’d be better off with a Swiss Arms flat top

Agreed I'd be better off with the Swiss flat top to accommodate the use of a scope. But my Famae is probably the closest I will come to owning a Swiss.

When I consider that I paid $2100 new for the Famae and a Swiss is around 4k I soon forget about the extra 1/2 inch of height.

beltfed, do you have a picture of your setup?

I could take some I guess. Since Photobucket imploded I haven’t found a site that is no hassles hosting that is easy to use with an iPad.

Other options if you can’t burn money on guns is maybe an AR stock adapter and AR stock with adjustable comb, or an add on comb like the velcro’d Bradley.

Man...I want one bad.
I'm holding out for the BRN-10 Bronwells retro AR10's though. Just sold a whole whack of guns and ammo and have enough saved up. Now to play the nervous waiting game.

If they end up Restricted I'm going to be picking up one of these bad boys off the EE.
Will be sticking to irons if I go that route.
Scopes; Bah!

There is a Manurhin made quick detach mount that is stanag. (approx $300)
If you prefer glass, then be warned it has the same line of sight drop as the Swiss Arms, where your cheek weld turns into a chin weld for an optic.
You can either use the rail from ERE or B&T or get a STANAG mount from this guy.

under scopes, switzerland and 550
The ones he lists for 550s fits both the Swiss Arms 550 and the SG540.
The ones listed as 540 are actually for the 542. The 540 and 542 have different length receivers.

The sight that fits it perfectly is the Bundeswehr surplus 4x26mm, built by either Hensoldt, Schmitt & Bender or Karl Kapps.
ZF4x26 is the name on ebay.(approx $500 and up)

If I need optics I really must have played and triedd everything on the swiss arms and Famae family yet I keep going back to this.
Lighest and closest to line for iron sights.

Must apologize, hot linked by accident.
Hope it is ok now.

Sorry Beltfed, I hot linked by accident.
I have ordered from him repeatedly in the past, just email to confirm.
They are ok with English.
The mount is very similar to the Swiss Arms quick detach, but to me at least even simpler with a push button lock rather than a paddle switch.

You can get a better idea of the Hensoldt sights by looking at the write up on the website, MG42.net
Picket like an Elcan C79 with a horizontal line and all kinids of marks.
However, way easier on my eyes for eye relief than an Elcan or ACOG type.

My optic setup isn't ideal, but it works. I'm planning to get a set of slightly lower, lighter rings for it at some point.

Hey, are those 2 sg 542 ? One on the top (green mag), what is the mag ? And the one under, you drill the stock to put this cheek riser ?

Thanks
