Modify CTR to long action?

I have seen you can turn your regular short action t3 into a long action by changing the bottom metal and such, because all Tikkas are built on long actions. Is it possible to do this with a CTR? Mountain tac builds kits for the T3 but not CTRs.

The CTR is the 10 round magazine and bottom metal. The rest is just a Tikka T3. What's the point of reverting a CTR to it's sporter T3 configuration?

You will need a new magazine system, CTR mags are for 308 length cartridges only. Save some money and start with a long action hunting version, do your upgrades to that instead.

^^^^^ This.
Long action may also require a different bolt depending on what cal you intend on running as the CTR is a .473 bolt face.

The ctr uses a long action bolt stop. I found out because I tried to put a t3 lite action in my old ctr stock and the bolt will not go back far enough to pick up a round from the ctr mags.

Anyone with actual experience or knowledge on my question?

I have helped my friend convert his 260 CTR to a long action to utilize a longer load length. The above comments are correct.

He had to ditch the mag and stock for a regular t3 stock and a 30-06 mag. You could easily go with a custom stock and 30-06 mag.
He had the bolt stop removed nd the gun was finished. If you want to run the same stock and a longer mag you need to get an all new stock and mag for the CTR in the long action (if it is available).

I highly recommend a trigger spring kit (like 15 bucks on eBay) and an aluminium bolt shroud while you’re t it.

If you find a standard plastic or alu floor plate for the original plastic t3 mags then this would fit into a CTR stock but will have a gap left and right as the CTR opening is much wider. One can shoot it that way if one also finds the little flat spring to go on the trigger M6 screw. Or just use the aftermarket AI type floor plates although these will also not fit into a CTR stock without some bedding/milling/dremel work.
Not quite sure why one would want to do this unless one changes the barrel to a long action cartridge. The CTR mag is quite generous in COL for a 308 etc.

Yeah just planning my next cartridge, opens up a lot more LR cartridges if I can re barrel to a long action.

Not exactly sure what your asking..
The ctr already uses a long action bolt stop
The ctr mags are very long already for seating bulllets out further
A t3 bottom "metal" does not drop into a ctr inlet for me- you would have to inlet the ctr stock slightly where the front of the bottom "metal" accepts the mag but then as already said you'd have a gap on each side of the mag inlet
You also don't need to buy a new bolt stop you can just file it back to fit how you need it.

I am asking if the crt action can be re barreled to a long action cartridge. And if there is long action bottom metal and magazines that would be compatible with the action, I would expect to have some modifying of my stock to do this.

Unless the car one is different this doesn't work with the t3. Tried it and the bolt would just pull out. Had to spend $80 plus shipping to get one from stoger Canada.

Works just fine for me. I filed back the bolt stop on a tactical so it would pick up rounds from a ctr mag which I fit into the tactical stock by milling it out to accept the ctr bottom metal.

Is this what your thinking? Just get a t3 long action with the bolt face you want and your off to the races. You would have to look into availability in Canada yourself

Okay thanks mountain tac/tikka performance does not make it for the CTR, so they say, but I don’t see why you couldn’t make that bottom metal and magazine work with a ctr if you modify your stock, my ctr is in a manners fibreglass it would be easy to inlet it for that bottom metal. This will be a future project after I’m done with this barrel I won’t want to get an all new rifle.
