I've been eyeing a Ranger II 38/357mag for a few years now and I think it's time to "pull the trigger" on one. Why? Just for the novelty and Shyts&G's...

The prices have really increased since Q was selling them for $499. But what hasn't!

I understand the late versions have a much improved trigger. Can anyone confirm if this is true, is the QC better or worse and who has them?

I know....many can't hit the side of the barn shooting one inside (a barn)....

You realize these guns are designed for bad breathe distances and for defensive use right?

I haven't tried the newer trigger but I did have a .357 Ranger with the old trigger and...... the trigger sucked.
Not so much the weight but the way it traveled made it hard to like.

They are huge and heavy derringers, almost the size of a Baby glock and I found aiming to be a bit of an issue as each barrel shoots to a different point of aim....... not a big deal in a point and shoot sense but as a range gun where you actually want to try and hit small targets it's annoying.

I will say the .357 with 38 specials was pleasant to shoot recoil wise and the guns are well made.

Interesting piece for a collection but not much fun as a range gun is my take.
Every now again I'm tempted by a newer version but the asking price is usually a few more hundred dollars then my interest.

These things are pushing a grand now.....I have the ranger in .45 LC/.410..... i do shoot it from time to time....more of a conversation piece than anything.....It's still on my never sell list

I have sold a few, but not for the last years of so, triggers are terrible on most I have seen, you have to have your finger low on the trigger and not bad, because of the why they pivot on the pin.
38's are nice 357mag not so much, the 45/410 is a handful, and the 45/45 is much better as you have more rifled barrel, rather than a shot gun barrel.
They have a 9mm barrel out, but never had one .
Well built gun, heavy, sell good but as a shooter, not much point, but we are talking guns , a lot of mine have no point, never stopped me thou.
The 3 inch U.S. guns are much nicer, but of course someone may get hurt with one of those.
If they improved the triggers, that would be a big help, never took one apart to look inside, thought about it , just never had time.

Thanks for the opinions folks! So I guess I'll be disappointed comparing the Bond Arms trigger to my S&W revovlers:) I was set to buy another S&W but do I really need an R8?
I'm not expecting anything close to bulls-eye accuracy but man does Hickok45 make shooting one look like a lot of fun.

Defensive use at bad breath distance....now that's funny

If you're looking for a good reason or justification to buy one;

I bought one just for spite.
These derringers make a complete mockery of our gun laws.

My Bond Arms is smaller than a (prohibited) snub-nose revolver, yet it's legal.

If you get one in 45/410, the reloading possibilities are almost endless. In 410 cases, i loaded three 380 bullets. Of course the factory 410 defensive rounds are interesting as well. The rounds in the picture are just something i came up with. I had been toying with getting a derringer in 45-70, just for giggles, but they are pricey. And since i already had a 45/410, it got me to thinking. 410 and 444 marlin are quite close dimensionally. And 303 brass can be fireformed to make 444 brass in a pinch, and are a little longer. So i fireformed 303 brass in the Bond Arms gun, essentually making a long 444 marlin case. Then using a 45 cal lead bullet, turned the bullets base down to fit the 444 size brass, making it into a heeled bullet. I decided to call it the 445wtf.

Where as 45 colt loads will generally tumble, due in part to the long bullet jump required before they hit the 1" rifled section of the bore, my new cartridge held the bullet just shy of the rifling. Testing showed the bullets stabilized well, and did not tumble. Much more accurate than the 45 colt loads. And they can be loaded as hot as your hands can handle, lol.

Anyway, just some of the crazy crap you can come up with when you have too much time on your hands.

Now that is interesting, But I am thinking could be a bit hard on the hand?, I am getting old and weak , why I lover 38 sp.
I know of a 45/70 one, but something I don't need, well that is not really right, but I would not want to shoot it

I shot a friend's 45lc/410 years ago. It had the "old trigger" config. I remember the trigger was very stiff and and an odd pull to it.
45LC was a hand full and at 7yrds it took a lot of effort to hit the 8"x10" paper target. But man it was fun and it was a nice piece of hardware just to fondle.
I lost interest mainly because I don't shot either 45LC or .410 and did not want to add another cal to the ammo cabinet.

When the BA became avail in 38/357 I knew I would eventually get one.
Well today was the day. I ordered one! (A B-Day present to myself:)) It's the Ranger II model in 38/357 with the new "improved" trigger, removable trigger guard, re-designed hammer spur, extended black wood grips and a nice black leather "driving" holster.

I want a BA Ranger II as well. I’ve handled one but haven’t shot one yet. Feels robust and nicely made. I want the 45LC/410 but would get a .38/.357 barrel too. Just a pistol for occasional shooting at the range. How many do I really need?

Yes, it can be quite harsh on the paws. Even the 410 defensive ammo is real mitt full. Of course it can be loaded down to much tamer levels. I have the snake slayer rose wood grips, which are beautiful, but a little thicker than i like. So bought the standard rubber grips to try out. Haven't fired it with these, so will see if they help, or exacerbate the recoil.

I don't know. I have three derringers. Two are prohibs in 22 and 38 special, plus the Bond Arms 45/410. None of them really serve any purpose, other than being cool. Still wouldn't mind one in 44 mag.

I remember seeing one in 10mm not to long ago, I think it was prophet river. Really was interested but at the end of the day ended buying a good scope for one of my rifles.
