I've been thinking about getting a 1911 in 9mm for IPSC and 3-Gun, I notice most manufacturers advertise the capacities of the gun at a 9+1 and some at a 10+1. Is there a particular reason that there are these different capacities such as reliability, or perhaps to keep the dimensions of the gun so that it still fits inside the dimension box for IPSC Classic Division.

Magazine has nothing to do with fitting jn the box, the base plate is the 100% cause of that.
9+1 means 9 in the mag, one in the chamber.
Obviously, if your shooting ipsc don't waste time or money on 9round mags.
Depending on your knowledge of 1911, the magazine is just as important as the extractor for reliable function.
Proper height and feedlip dimension all produce magic or hell.
Before you go spending 350$ on 5 or 6 new mags, experiment with other poeple's mags first.
What works for one 1911, probably will not work for another, but there is always a proper match.

Tripp tends to be a winner. But i know alot of players that swear by them, then are clearing jams. (Slide ride, mag issue? I tend to not ask)
I have always used wilson Emt v2 (metal followers) they have been flawless in an sti trojan and multiple springfield

yes obviously I would want the 10 round mags. I just didn't know if they were of a 10rnd capacity because they have a baseplate on them that would make them to long or perhaps the frame of the gun itself was a slightly different size.
if theirs no difference in the size of the gun or the dimesions of the mag then why would any manufacturer use a 9 round mag, makes no sense to me because the capacity doesn't fit really anywhere in sport shooting.

I had some Mecgar 10 round mags with my 9mm 1911, they worked great, but I'm no expert, or competitor.
I had Tripp mags for my 40sw 1911 they were great too.
