.41 Magnum Shooters?

41special brass is now available for the 41mag just like 44special is for it's bigger brother. More consistent spreads on velocity and (I anyway) get great accuracy with 'em, plus with faster low-volume powders there's less chance for double-charge. I like that shorter Special brass alot.

6.5 Unique
7.0 Power Pistol
4.0 Bullseye, &
16.0 VvN110 are my special-loads.. 215 commercial cast & 230/240 Kieths (all) shoot on those same charges. WLP primers or Rem2,1/2's work; edge goes to WLP though, they seem to have tougher cup material. 16.0VvN110 load is a stomper (for a "special") clocks 1250fps using the 240Keith. Unique & PP mid-range; 975/1020-ish depending which bullet is in front. And the Bullseye just a gallery type for paper.

I'm a big Fan of the 41's, would (really) like to get a Cougar with mine someday... and Montana's open for Revolver Cat hunts. Sure wish our dingbats here in Canada would get it together so we could enjoy Hunting with wheel guns the same way the guys Stateside are able to. Really a damn shame we can't. Politics plain & simple.

Lots of good info there Whiskeywillow. I will have to check in at my local gun store and maybe order some of the .41 special brass and give it a whirl.

I'd also like to be able to take the .41 hunting, a cougar hunt would be The Bomb for sure....don't expect common sense to prevail here though, Montana may be your only choice. Thanks again for the load info, going to save it. TC

The 41 and a Blackhawk with a 7 1/2 barrel. Wouldn't sell mine. Look up the writings of John Taffin for 41 special loads. I didn't have a Blackhawk in 41 when I picked it up. Another gun and caliber to enjoy.

Troll sounds jealous, maybe he can't afford to have a 41 mag.
Troll feeding. In triple digits yet.

Unless your shooting a handgun competition such as ipsc or metallic handgun silhouette where you have certain power requirements it doesnt matter much what cartridge your handgun is chambered in.

I've had the pleasure of shooting the following handguns in the following cartridges.

All are fun to shoot some more then others . My 41 magnum in a Ruger Blackhawk 4/58" barrel is quite the handful with hot loads.

22 LR
22 Mag
7mm TCU
30-30 Win
9mm
38 Special
357 Mag
357 Maximum
375 Super Mag
41 Mag
44 Mag
45 Colt
45 ACP
480 Ruger
45-70

357

Haa! I own a 357 and a 44...I sure don't feel the need to piddle in the middle.

Oh advantage the .41 has over the .43 Magnum, aside from a slightly better trajectory and a better horsepower to recoil ratio, is that it can be loaded hot in a Smith N frame without unduly beating up the gun.

I don't believe there is much advantage to "Ruger Only" type loads in this caliber because there isn't all that much performance being left on the table as with the larger rounds.

Alright! All of you, stop it! You are driving me crazy!

I want Twisted Canuck's 657-2 with the non 4 inch 4 inch barrel very badly (or one like it), and I don't know how I am going to get by. I have two .357 Magnums (not impressed) a 44 Magnum, and three .45 Colt Redhawks (capable of "45 Magnum Loads"), those I love. I still have no 41 Magnum, and desperately want a 4" 41 Magnum for that perfect compromise.

TC, if you ever re-consider, please, I beg you, remember me.

Pax

I hear the cry of your heart, and I cannot fault you for it. I will put you down on the 'Dibs' list for the 657-2....I think you are #11. It seems to have a following of the Desperate, understandably. Keep your eyes peeled for a Model 57 or 657 with the 6 1/2" barrel, they do come up now and then, and you won't be disappointed with one. If you do find one, I've got an extra set of dies for you if needed...

Thanks TC, I think #11 is my lucky number ;)

On a more serious note, I don't find I like barrels longer than 5.5 inches, and would prefer 4.2 to 5 inch barrels.

Can a 6" barrel legally be cut to 4.2 inches, and how much does that typically cost? I am interested in the S&W variety to keep the bulk and weight down, as opposed to the Ruger.

Someone must be upset. My comment on trolls warranted a PM. Says he is coming for a visit. Interesting. Just a tad over the top.

Wow. I'd be sharing that one with a Mod....a great community here for the most part, but there are always those who aren't so much.

Anyway, Pax, you can get your 6 cut down to a 106mm by Murray Charlton, I'm pretty sure. Give him a shout, he is the guru of all things S&W. I have a couple with trigger jobs by him, and they are exquisite.

Thanks for the tip TC. If it ever happens, I will let you know.

Both of mine (S&W 57 and Ruger Redhawk) like a 210gr Hornady JHP in front of 18.4 grains of 2400, and for something a little lighter, a powder coated Lee 210gr swc in front of 8.5 grains of green dot

Dang if I had know you were taking names TC... !

Seriously though that is a one of a kind, different but not unlike the Alberta Python. Phenomenal catch. You have a stellar revolver collection, sir.

Thanks gdawg. I wish I could have that 3" magnaported 657 that Dan has too!

There was a guy years ago on a U.S. forum, might have been THR, who was big on the .41 and used a 4" hard chromed Model 57 as his everyday carry gun.

His carry load was handloads consisting of 170 gr JHPs at 1550 fps. He posted up some pics after testing them in gelatin and they appeared to outperform any intermediate caliber rifle rounds I can recall seeing up the that point, pretty impressive for a handgun..

He shot other loads of course, some softer, but he had quite an impressive round count on that thing with nothing more than the occasional tuneup.
