Snagged a Glock 20 in Wanstalls' sale, curious about it

So I've been wanting a larger caliber pistol and have been reading and reading, eventually deciding on a 10mm. I have been waiting for Wanstalls' sale to go live and there it was, a Glock 20, for a good price. So, I bought it. I know nothing about Glocks though, this is my first. Can anyone tell me about this one? No finger grooves or rail lead me to believe it is a first gen. Looks to be in nice shape anyway.

First generation guns have a uniform pebble texture all around the grip, as opposed to the panel of pebble on the sides, and gator checkering on the front and back seen here. First generation guns were limited to the model 17, 18 and a very few 19s. As mentioned this gun is a second gen.

Quite frankly, the mechanical differences between the generations are few. Somewhere in the second generation the shape of the port around the ejector was changed from a square cut to an angled cut. There is the "six part upgrade" you may want to look into once you know your serial number. Otherwise most parts aren't any different.

I may end up selling it if the grip is as huge as I'm reading. I'm not a collector I just like shooting. So if it's uncomfortable, I could certainly pm you

I was just cracking a joke.

In all seriousness unless you have tiny hands and/or subconsciously want to not like it I don't think it'll be an issue. I was actually talking to a guy last week who has a Gen 3 20 and he was saying it was a little on the big side until he removed the finger grooves. Looks like you're in luck and Glock took them off for you.

I appreciate the insight! I actually stumbled upon a post in a forum, while googling this pistol, that talked about this 6 part upgrade. I'll need to contact Glock and see if mine has been done or not.

Haha! My hands are normal sized, I shoot my Shadow fine, they aren't known to be the most compact 9mm out there. I just kept reading random forum posts, while googling, where people would mention the uncomfortably large grips. I appreciate the information, this puts my mind at ease.

The grip is huge and uncomfortable but that's coming from someone with very small hands. I'm also not a fan of 10mm but that's neither here nor there.

i wouldnt worry about the grip being bigger.
i have medium hands and im not a big fan of big framed pistols and i have a Glock 40 (10mm longslide) and i dont mind it at all.
they are thicker length wise not width if that makes sense..... its cause the rounds are longer.

plus the fact that if you get some zippy rounds for it your gonna want the extra meat on the gun so you can get both paws on it.

I am not ashamed to admit that 40SW in polymer guns are the most recoil I can tolerate. I'm talking about 180 grain bullets launched at 1150 fps. My 357Magnum 686 and GP100 deliver less recoil than my FNS40L. I only shoot 40SW when I need to feel manly.;)

10mm would be another notch or two higher. So hat off to you sir. Have fun and Good luck!

Haha All I have to base the recoil off of is youtube videos. Doesn't look too bad.

as with any round you can get light loads and heavy loads.
any 10mm ammo you buy in a store up here in Canada is a light load.
only once you get into the Buffalo Boar custom loads or loading your own to you actually get to feel some 'ommfff' in shooting the 10mm.

when people ask me about the 10mm i have i always equate it to it being a 40cal magnum load, which is essentially what it is.

so with my 10mm i shoot PMC a lot when im plinking and i really dont notice any different between shooting that and shooting some peppery 9mm ammo.

I really like PMC ammo. I run it in my x95, and my shadow. I see Canada ammo is the only place in canada that actually has 10mm, and it is PMC. Kinda sucks it is so scarce. Makes me question my decision of picking 10 mm over .45 or .357.

Don’t worry. Reloading is fun. Buy a couple boxes of factory, save the brass. Worst case scenario is to list your 20 on the EE.

Apparently Glock 10mm's will run and feed .40 s&w too. I'm not telling you to do it, but it might be worth exploring.
