Hi I’m looking for some help but I’m a new firearms owner and just got a new Norinco M305a I ordered from SFRC and have some concernerns and don’t now how to go about it so any input would be great but I just got this rife in the mail today and can see it’s packed in cosmoline but has some rust on the bolt I think I’m not planning to clean it right now and will probably hold off on it for a while since I don’t want my house to smell like chemicals but feel it’s to cold to do it outside in minus 20 so I’ll wait on warmer weather with this small amount of rust will it affect it anymore if I hold off on cleaning it? Second I received 2 magazines along with the rifle but both of them don’t work they both get caught on the bolt and won’t close or open and would like some input on what to do cuz it looks like the lips are causing the problem so if I shaved it down would that negatively affect it?

I dont see any rust? Anyways as far as light rust is concerned, 0000 steel wool, gun oil and some elbow grease would help. New rifle, Needs breaking in. Magazines included.
m14 platform loves grease. So without that and with a new gun, its going to feel...'gritty' i guess? will smooth out.

Dude you need punctuation.

Also check if the bolt is steel.

You will like the rifle.

Ya not really concerned about punctuation it just went straight out the door when I chose to be a plumber after #### all day it just went out the door, I’ll try the steel wool when I decided to get a proper clean when the temp is higher out as far as the magazines go I know the lips of the mag are catching on the bolt and preventing it from closeing I dunno if it’s how the magazine is sitting in the modified mag well that’s doing it but it looks like to the front of it the lips sit higher than the bolt slightly so the bolt can’t go any further but if I shave down the lips could that negatively affect how it will feed later? Or am I just over thinking it?

I’m sure, someone can help you out in person, if you share your location.

They could test your mags in their rifle or test some of their’s in yours. Plus give you a good run down of your rifle.

I was new to guns a few years ago started by stripping cosmoline from Mosins. YouTube and this site were invaluable in seeing techniques and products to use as well as dissasembly/reassembly videos.
1 issue with Chinese arms made by Norinco is that the steel is not of the same grade as our old Mosins so degreasing takes more care
- you need to break down your parts as far as comfortable
- degrease metal parts (careful if using harsh degreaser, until neutralized removed and re-oiled the metal is at risk of rust exposure do it fast 1 part at a time till your comfortable to do more)
- stock if grease can be washed with water and dish soap if all metal removed. Leave to hang dry before assembly
Reassemble

I like to have the hose handy and my air compressor lives in the garage so any serious gun degreasing or cleaning occurs in there. I go so far as to limit shooting surplus ammo in the winter cause I find it easier to just breakdown and hose my milsurps, air compress dry and re-oil. In the winter I slather with Ballistol but it starts looking like cosmoline itself at -5 and below....

Get some Gunzilla spray it on, let it soak, wipe it off; works like magic!

I've also heard the spray silicone lube works well too, but evaporates quickly.

After both follow up with oil and lithium grease on your bolt until broken in.

I wouldn't do anything untill you educate yourself a little more on this platform. It has many neuaunces.

What is all this decreasing people talk about. When I got the old gun and oil in bag new rifle all I did was take it apart and wipe it down. It's not like it was cosmoline. Greased her up according to propper procedure and lived happily ever after.

You are attempting to close the bolt with an empty mag. Get some snap caps load up the mag and then try.
The empty mag is designed to hold the bolt open when the last round is fired. I would not mess with it.
Clean it get some ammo and go put rounds downrange.... 200 ish then IF there are still feed/cycling issues start messing with it.

If it's the 7.62x39 the hold open does not work iirc

I am happy to see no one suggested using the dishwasher.

I don't see the rust; are you sure it is not just a staining of some sort? Put a drop of oil on your finger and rub a little bit; that might take the discoloration away. And as has been mentioned, the Battle Rifle section has a world of information...pour yourself a coffee and start browsing.

And welcome to the M305 addiction. You will need a second one (wait for it) or "Your #### will fall off."

Ya I’m reading up about it all I can find at least and ya already cut myself pulling it apart on a sharp edge that everyone says about Norinco rifles I will for sure strip it and fully clean it but are these rifles shipped in cosmoline? Iv been looking up ways and watching vids on cleaning it and video wise cosmoline seems like almosted caked on grease but so far I don’t see the clumps that iv seen on the vids more oily and runny than anything

Yes it’s the 7.62x39 rifle as far as I can see their aren’t any visible MIM circles under the bolt but on the other hand if they did is it suggested to get a usgi bolt for the 7.62x39 version? As for the magazine problem I took 2 more pics but it’s definitely the top well of the magazine it’s like just scraping enough to not wanna open or close
