Norinco m305a from SFRC

Edmonton, Alberta question tho as I was looking around on forums on how to clean it but out of the box new break it down and wipe up the oil and apply clp and such will that work or do I need to get some actual cleaner/ degreaser like break cleaner before I start to clp and such to it?

The only thing you really need to clean is the chamber, bolt, and bore. Make sure the firing pin is clean and oil free. Everything else just needs to be wiped down. Make sure you pop out the gas piston and piston and cylinder a good wipe.

Grease as per recommendations.

Your house won't smell like chemicals unless you use noxious chemicals on the rifle.

Here is what you need to do:

1) locate some old t-shirts or heavy duty paper towels and a tube of your favorite light gun oil. Hoppes' gun oil in the orange squeeze bottle from Canadian Tire will work fine and is cheap and can be bought everywhere. Or WD40.

2) Watch this video.

3) Your rifle will differ in minor way as it's the 7.62x39 version, but disassembly should be about the same. Take the gun completely apart on a piece of cardboard or some laid out newspaper so nothing gets greasy or oily.

4) Grab the rags you set aside, put a healthy dose of oil on the rag and start rubbing down all the metal parts. Almost certainly you have no rust on our gun. It's likely just packing chemical residue.

5) Now watch this video.

6) You will need some appropriate grease. Don't worry about using the specific brands in these videos, you can just get some Castrol wheel bearing grease for cheap at Canadian Tire in a 500ml tub and it will work fine. Or buy a boutique gun grease. It won't matter, and grease of the right consistency will work well in the M14. Lubricate and oil the rifle as instructed. Almost all M14/M305 lubrication is done with grease, while oil is rubbed over metal surfaces more as a corrosion inhibitor than as a lubricant.

7) Re-assemble the rifle.

8) It's unlikely your mags are causing the bolt to not close. those AK-type mags are rock and lock, the front lip goes in first and you then rock the mag back into place until the magazine release catch engages on the tab at the back of the mag. M1's and M305's in 7.62x39 will often have the bolt hang up is carefully released over an empty magazine. Just give the operating rod handle a push and it should ride over the follower and snap closed. That is normal, and it doesn't happen on a loaded magazine. Don't load the mag with live ammo in your house though!

Good luck.

If it's just oil, strip the rifle down complete and wipe it all off with rags.
Do normall cleaning of the chamber and barrel with a brush and patches to get all the storage oil out. The provided cleaning kit contains everything you need to do this actually.
Then just use normal lithium grease on the bolt tracks and standard any old cheap CLP oil for the surfaces. Put it back together and you're set. See the internet for direction on proper dissassembly.

If it was cosmoline, that's a whole other ball of wax but sounds like it's just packing oil it's soaked in.

Ok I just got it cleaned up and still having the mag issues anyone got any suggestions?

Doesn't look like that mag is fitting. I suggest you contact the vendor and speak to them about trying another set of replacement mags. If that doesn't work, the mag catch on the trigger group may need some fitting (by a gunsmith).

I was new to guns a few years ago started by stripping cosmoline from Mosins. YouTube and this site were invaluable in seeing techniques and products to use as well as dissasembly/reassembly videos.
1 issue with Chinese arms made by Norinco is that the steel is not of the same grade as our old Mosins so degreasing takes more care
- you need to break down your parts as far as comfortable
- degrease metal parts (careful if using harsh degreaser, until neutralized removed and re-oiled the metal is at risk of rust exposure do it fast 1 part at a time till your comfortable to do more)
- stock if grease can be washed with water and dish soap if all metal removed. Leave to hang dry before assembly
Reassemble

I like to have the hose handy and my air compressor lives in the garage so any serious gun degreasing or cleaning occurs in there. I go so far as to limit shooting surplus ammo in the winter cause I find it easier to just breakdown and hose my milsurps, air compress dry and re-oil. In the winter I slather with Ballistol but it starts looking like cosmoline itself at -5 and below....

Well said break tour rifle down using videos online as guides. Clean with regular gun degreaser or mineral spirits if brave clean 1 part at a time with degreaser, neutralize with water, dry fast with air compressor and then oil the part. If left degreased with no oil for long (not that long) the part will speckled with rust.

It does not look like rust on the bolt but instead a big clump of cosmoline.

That is not a mag issue. Your trigger group geometry is off, placing the magazine catch too high in relation to the bolt. That's a warranty issue, contact the vendor.

Ya I’m going to go back to sfrc and contact Ryan at least to see if I can do anything about it

Well sent both a pm to Ryan and emailed the sfrc site 3 days still no response (man sfrc I feel so let down)

Sorry to harp on this, but if you can't see their e-mail response, why not call them?
