EoTech 557 Military Holosight

I've been reading up on the new 557 EoTech...looks to offer a major jump in performance over the older gen sights. Was checking on SWFA and they're currently listed at $998.95US They sure aren't giving them away!

Has anybody had the opportunity to use on yet? Anybody know if they're on the No-No list put together by the US State Dept.? What are the chances of seeing legal imports into Canada...i.e., closer to slim...or none?

There is an export ban on these too I believe... same as the 553's.

No - TSE is supposed to have some in six to eight weeks.

TSE did, however, confirm an export ban on the 553's.

Mine just arrived. Typical Eotech build quality; easily adjusted to match my irons (some earlier Eotechs had mushy 'clicks', this one is fairly crisp); nice to have that lower-third co-witness. I'll have it out at the range shortly, but I'm sure will will work like every other sight in the group.

The only question is speed of acquisition with the multiple dots: from what i can tell in the basement, no problem. The outer ring with it's alignment marks makes it crystal-clear what dot you're using.

if you can get it with a 4x magnifier its a great deal as the 4x magnifier alone is running $799 with a flip over mount even if doesn't have the mount worth $150 it still makes the magnifier $650 which means you're getting the 557 for $350

Last I checked the 557 is selling for about $450 USD (OpticsPlanet). Not a bad deal but it takes up more real-estate on your rail than the previous gen EOTechs. The 553 was singled out for an export ban because it was designed for the SOPMOD program specifically and the military and manufacturer probably don't want one of their latest electronic sights on airsoft replicas in Hong Kong a few months after being introduced.

I really wanted a 553, because of the form factor and CR123 usage - same batteries as the light. But then the 557 showed up with a BDC - and that was the winning feature. And exportability of course. And tight integration with the Eotech 4x magnifier (although I'm getting the 3x for cost reasons).

A surprise advantage to the side-activated buttons is on-the-fly adjustability. I use the magwell as a vertical grip; from there, my thumb can crank the brightness up or down while retaining control and sight picture - not possible on any other Eotech.
