Island Deer, what gun & caliber?

Not on drugs or smoking anything funny...way back when in the 60's John McDonald was gatekeeper of the Sooke Lake watershed, the 'shack' as it was called( or the 'Sooke Lake coffee shop') had a wall full of racks from big bucks...of course that was BEFORE wolves decimated the deer herd and apart from Cougars, no preditors ,and no hunting behind the locked gates of the watershed, plenty of browse and timber to shelter in, bucks died of old age..

There are some areas on the Island that are known for producing bigger bucks. I know of one such area, you just need to put your time in. :)

can anyone comment on the recoil of the 450 Bushmaster in the Ruger American? you're pushing a big bullet out of a pretty light rifle.

reading online, some have commented it's not much more than .223...but I'm having a hard time believing that.

Camp Cook, what do you think of the stock? I'm not a big fan of cheap plastic...so wonder what options are available to swap out while keeping same weight range, if i find I don't like this one either. :p

I'll put it this way the stock is functional cheap and light I bought this rifle to be a fast handling out to max 200 yard truck/thick bush/camp defense thumper while I am looking at the Magpul Hunter and MDT LSS stocks I'm not jumping on getting one because I wanted a super light bolt gun.

As to recoil I finally sat down at a bench at my gun club yesterday for the first time with the 450 BM the rest of the time I'm been out in the bush shooting it I don't like muzzle brakes so took mine off but for most people they will need that brake left on meaning this little cannon thumps hard on both ends.

As to comparing to 223 recoil multiple it by at least 4 and probably more and No I'm not exaggerating...

With my 225gr FTX loads @ an average velocity of 2450fps I zeroed the Leupold VX2 2-7x33mm long range reticle scope 1" high at 100 yards at 200 yards I held the first dot down on the reticle post dead on at 200 yards bullets hit 4" low need to work on the 100 yard zero raise it to 1 1/2" - 2" then see what happens at 200 yards.
