I am seriously considering one of these two shotguns and looking for some owners input on them.

Additional info:

- Main use of the shotgun will be for waterfowl but, it will also see duty hunting crows, magpies, rabbits and sporting clays.
- Not interested in Inertia system shotguns (already have one)
- The gun will see moderately hard use but, I always clean and lube my shotguns after each hunt.
- Reliability is king.
- I do use 3 1/2 inch shells during goose season.
- I have handled both a lot over the couple months (both shoulder and seem to fit me well) but I have not actually shot either of these.

Thank you for your input.

Thank you for the replies.

Can I get a little info one why specifically that you prefer the maxus?

versamax here. versamax has a superior gas system. is heavier so kicks a lot less with heavy shells. cycles any cheap crap clay pigeon with authority. ive had one for years and thousands of rounds with zero issues. super easy to clean.

Maxus is much lighter. to me more of a upland gun than a waterfoul gun. the light gun beats you up especially with 3.5 inch.

You cannot be serious. Do you weigh 150 pounds
Cheers

how many shots do you shoot from a good waterfoul hunt? ive been on a few dandies that had lots of shooting. 6 hunters 8 geese and 8 ducks each, plus 25 snows, that equals a lot of shooting. and a lot of cleaning

You think I have not hunted snows out west and had days of over 100 rounds. I shoot a 10ga gold normally and if the recoil of a maxus with 3 1/2 in it hurts you best put some weight on those shoulders or buy a shoulder pad or recoil reducing pad for your gun like a kick-eez.
Cheers

not to take away from the Maxus in any way, great gun . However my versa max had been flawless ,as a duck hunting gun. very soft on shoulder, eats any thing you feed it even 7/8 oz reloads and cycles them well. I shoot clay birds with ever bit as good as any gun. Both are very good guns

Either one will work but if I'm spending my money it would be the Maxus hands down. Runs well, easy to clean and reliable.

Maxus for me. I have had mine for several years and it has been problem free. Most importantly, it shoots where I am looking but that did take some experimenting with spacers.

A local store had a really good sale on the Versa Max so I decided to go in and grab one. After handling several models I left without. Everyone seemed extremely barrel heavy to a point of awkward to handle and everyone had a loose forearm that couldn't seem to be adjusted to tight. People on the waterfowl chat forums down south seem to really like them as they are getting mostly positive reviews however. It is certainly a gun you should handle before purchase as it is not like the 1100, 1187 or 870 of old which in spite of their short comings are quite well balanced.
