possible issue with m305 receiver

Thanks for sharing this picture on the forum. I had a rifle that wasn't properly indexed and when I got it fixed the feed ramps din't match up right. It's a shame they don't have anyone working at norinco that believes in quality.

Weird. Definitely pitted.
I have a Springfield garand with some forge marking on the heel from manufacture, but yours looks like corrosion pitting.

Chinese receivers are forged. Not cast. I am not terribly sure how voids like that would happen with a forged receiver..... or how they could make it past even a cursory glance at the assembly stage....

John

Looking at those flaws makes me believe that tis is NOT a forging but it was cast.
Just compare this to the rough unfinished forgings of the German G43/K43 rifles,no pin holes in those!

I agree with wbaad. The pitting appears to be on top of the machining. (Corrosion) The bumps & bruises under the heel of the receiver would indicate it was bounced around a while before being used. I understand they are not making anymore receivers. maybe it was at the bottom of the barrel and one of the last ones put together . My guess

That is rust pitting on that receiver, it is not a casting.

Looks like serious pitting. Receiver probably suffered during bad storage, then was pulled out of the pile and finished. Aren't these receivers all 20-odd years old?

Definately rust pitting as anyone who knows anything at all about Chinese m14 type rifles knows they sure as schit ain't cast.
Reliable Gun, killer bunch of folks to deal with, nice to hear they are sorting it out.
BTW, I've never seen pitting that bad on a new Chinese m14 receiver, an oddball as they closer to the last of the parts in china.

John, in my opinion that is rust pitting. To me, the giveaway is how the machining look on the bottom heel flat. The tooling didn't grab pit edges and oblong them, I believe the pitting occured AFTER machining. We generally don't know how long some chinese receivers sit in storage between assembly and finishing runs. My suspicion in that one got rather rusty, but was blasted prior to being finished and assembled. Pretty nasty looking now! But probably just cosmetic.

Sorry for the necro thread, but it piqued my interest.

Do you mean Norinco will no longer be building M305s??

Are there guns later than 2014 manufacture on the market?

They are shipping them over here with MIM bolts now that fail after shooting around 100 rounds. I don't think people will be buying them much anymore.

I dont know...If the receiver is what sets them apart they might just sell those alone as well. I can say for sure they are a special piece of equipment. How much money can a proper bolt really cost to manufacture...

If the gun was for sale for 30% discount because of that flaw I would be all over it.
If it was pitted like that anywhere near the bolt track, receiver face etc Maybe would be a cause for some concern. Looks cosmetic at worst case due to location. It's a Norinco. Meh,
Good enough for me but that's just me.
