Was reading about how some guys in the u.s were making .410 slug guns and custom loads and claiming 45/70 like performance.
It's not legal for big game hunting here in Alberta so I doubt anyone would bother.
Still you have to find the inginuity intriguing.
Might be a fun little unique project.

I can only assume they most likely hunt in shotgun only zones?
Or just want to be different I guess.
I Just found it interesting what can be done with a .410 is all.

At 1/5th of an ounce from a .410, does very little due to its low energy. I've loaded everything possible into a 410 and its results were always poor. Its easy to make a few comparisons by firing into a couple phone books to see how poor it compares. Its a great chicken gun but expectations should stop there.

In Japan you must start with a "rifle" like that. Gunsmiths use a 444 marlin case to make the ammo. I have seen the result and it's efficient.

There was an oufitt in the states that made someting similar for the T/C platform and it seems to perform very well.

Factory 410 slugs pass through a deer chest at 50 yards no problem

I used savage 410er tubes in a sxs as a double rifle sort for jacks. They always seemed out of range for shot. Only one barrel was on the other wasnt to far off. I took a few jacks and coons and one unlucky coyote. They were factory loads

However i met an old timer up north with a single shot 410. Hed cut the crimp and dump the shot tben muzzle load an arrow. Scary as it was to watch the results were exillerating

I didn't realize you can use 410 slugs on deer , i might have to try it :)

Yes you can in ontario.
The regs say the limit is 20g when loaded with shot .a slug is a single projectile. Keep your shots within 50 yards broadside and you'll have a dead deer every time

Many laugh at the 410 slug. They say itll just bounce off a deer but ive never met anyone willing to pace off a 100 yards and try to catch one lol
Ive heard of loading pistol bullets in brass casingsbut ive never done it myself yet

I doubt you've tried it. It won't even go through a phone book. I have to wonder how small of deer that you shoot at? Baby deer with spots?

Get out and actually compare your 410 slug into a phone book and compare it to other rounds. Even when I max pressure the .410 loads or make them heavier, they still have very poor results. The average handgun round does much better.

Takes 3.5-3.75 phone books to stop a 180 gr bullet from my 300 wm at 25 yards. Paper books vrs an animals chest isnt a very good comparison.

Interesting fact about phone books is if you overlap the pages of two phone books page by page two 1/2 ton trucks cant pull them apart
Ive seen deer killed with a slug from a 410. Both ran less than 30 yards til they fell over

Agree a .410 slug is 1/4 ounce at 1800 fps. Less power than some handguns. I've shot deer with slugs and 000 shot. All 12 ga. A .410 slug is marginal. Why even mess about with such a small shotshell. A 3" .410 has 5 pellets of 000 buckshot at about 1130 fps. About .36 cal., 71 grains a ball. A BC of .049,

A .410 shotgun is a novelty, nothing more.
