Gun and Gang Violence Summit

I only watched certain parts of the agenda related to guns specifically. The orgs were not part of the agenda nor did I see any reference to them. They were just there to participate by listening in to what was being tabled by the looks of it.

Correct. Government invites you; you attend. Even with 300 other attendees.

The alternative to the Title of Gun and Gangs Summit could be: The Systemic Failure of Canada's Courts. "Hug-a-thug" sentences embolden criminals as they have little fear of real repercussions.
The s***bags that ransacked my house and others in my neighborhood got 6 months and are out in 1/2 time served to go do it again. They were trying to steal my guns and smashed the hell out my safe trying to get them.

But the Liberals introduce new laws that target legal gun owners to prevent this from happening again?? Am I missing something?

- I did my part and locked my guns up.
- The police did their job and presented great evidence in court.
- The crown accepted a plea deal so she didn't have to work to get a good sentence on a career criminal!!
FIX THE COURTS!!!

Problem is if you protect yourself or property you will likely lose your gun privilege in this country especially under these faded red liberals. The terrorists, criminals, illegal immigrants seem to be more important to this government.

How about accountability of agents of the state do their job properly and enforce laws on the book?

There was an anti-gun CBC clip on the National about those with mental health getting their PAL. No talk about how the RCMP failed to apply existing law.

What does gang violence have to do with sports?

The CSAAA represents retailers who store and sell guns both of which are routes for legal guns to gangs. I think Goodale was well served to have them there to have input into any storage, sale and transportation laws.

I am glad we got an invite, but I wonder what if any influence they were able to have.

Is there any evidence they were able to give input? I hope so.

But it could be that they were invited only to give legitimacy for wide consultation without actually doing any consulting.

CSAAA to represent sporting arms business owners at Government's Summit on Gun and Gang Violence

CSAAA President Wes Winkel has been invited by the Minister of Public Safety's office to represent Canadian sporting arms businesses at the government's Guns and Gangs Summit in Ottawa on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

"We're not sure what to expect, but we want to be sure we are fully aware of the discussion taking place and able to offer our technical expertise on firearms, current regulations in practice, as well as feedback on the feasibility of ideas and how they would affect sporting arms business owners in Canada," said Winkel.

"As the representatives of hundreds of responsible small business owners employing an estimated 25,000 Canadians, it is our mission to ensure our members are not unfairly represented in this process or unduly harmed by any proposed initiatives. We believe our business members can, and should, be part of the solution to the issue of illegal and criminal firearms transactions, while respecting and protecting the lawful sale and use of sporting arms in Canada," added Winkel.

The Summit will be live-streamed at:http://video.isilive.ca/pssp/2018-03-07/english.html

The CSAAA is to be commended for finding enough common ground and by offering comprehensive representation so that one association speaks for all Canadian sporting small businesses.

It's not hard to imagine that in the beginning and throughout their history there would be plenty of wedge issues that could have fractured them into two or more competing groups but that hasn't happened.

On the user side of the shooting scene we have three major organizations and maybe there is a lesson to be learned from the CSAAA?

I was also heartened to see the raffle that Wolverine organized recently with all proceeds going to laudable charities. You know, the idea of "if you want to get good things you have to do good things"?

Maybe CSAAA and its members "get it" on more than one level?

Anyone new here, those looking to support any organization(s) and those renewing memberships would do well to study this list carefully and do enough research to determine why this list is conspicuously incomplete?

Good points and I would hope that the answers are reported to their membership in the very near future along with a recommendation of what we should be doing about it. I was just headed over to a few web pages when I saw your note.

This is so true and so frustrating. On the public forums I am always at odds with the posters who council "rehabilitation" yet do not seem to be moved by my questions about how many reoffend when on bail, promises to appear on their own recognizances, or paroled (usually early). They dismiss those as statistical blips but we seem to see it in the media way too often along with the "known to police" cliche.

I'm frustrated but I can't imagine how the police feel.

Jean Pierre Goyer - read his obit: ht tps://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/trudeaus-solicitor-general-was-the-architect-of-prison-reform/article583019/

You will get a feeling that's where all this started.

Existing law is hard to apply because a mental health disqualification is arbitrary right now from all that I have been able to determine.

Even though we don't have specific gun rights I believe that we have a right to a fair process and an arbitrary decision could be challenged in court - if you can afford it.

Hopefully if the the upcoming changes include mental health components, clear guidelines, protection for your property, legal protection, right of appeal and qualified decision makers will be part of the process. If not then we will just have another bad law to live with.

If it comes to mental health the government can probably expect an uptick in friction, there will be a lot of young, urban Liberal supporters who are on meds for minor mental health issues that will take umbrage at the inferred blame.
To a large degree - judging by social media south of the border - the Evil AR narrative has benefited from people shouting down the blame mental health narrative.
And our law makers may be reluctant to go there

I like your thought provoking, insightful, predictive posts.

Thank you for trying to help us look over the horizon and well beyond the release of the latest AR platform.

If you have any suggestions, throw them out there. A functional team that is passionate about a common goal is far more than the sum of its parts.
