In mid december i ordered an ibi barrel from Mystic Precision and it just got in today.
For something custom ordered i consider this a quick turnaround.
I like ordering from Jerry, as he is good to answer all questions a buyer can have.

This was my order : Savage prefit, 308, M40 contour, 1:10 twist, 26'' long, 3/4x24 muzzle thread

So today was installation, a good initial clean (dewey coated rod with bore guide, nylon brush, wipeout, patches), and determining lands.

As far as install go, the only thing i can say that is relevant to ibi is that their savage small/regular shank prefit threaded into my 10TR without a hiccup.
During cleaning, i also noticed that lands are clear and definate. In my initial 10TR sometimes lands we're hard to find, they are clear cut here.
Had to neck turn my hornady case for the oal gauge for it to fit more smoothly in the chamber.

Using 2 different techniques and 15-20 tries, 175 SMKs, i am touching lands at 2.222'' using hornady bullet comparator on ogive.
In OAL this translates to an average of 2.808''.

That's it for now, waiting on new trigger and brake before reassembling.
Will start loading rounds tomorrow, as first range visit will be a load dev visit.

(factory savage barrel 0.800'' at muzzle 24'', ibi barrel 0.920'' at muzzle 26'')

I reassembled in the meantime my new trigger Rifle Basix sav1 gets here from brownells.
Since i do not trust my accutrigger anymore (polished it, and if i bang buttstock on the groud it clicks), i gotta wait on new trigger, it's actually quite the tease!
What i can say so far, new profile and lenght has changed point of balance, it used to be in front of magazine, now it's almost centered with black pad under handguard.
And the 3/4'' brake can be put on tighter hand tight, so i will shoot and see before i apply red loctight to see if it's needed.

Since i kept same recoil lug in the same orientation, my recoil lug bedding is still good to go.

Thanks!
I take pride trying to find as many CDN components as possible.
So far i have managed with barrel, brake, 20 moa rail, chassis.. and maybe even the savage 10TR is made in Ontario trying to find out for this one.

As far as I'm aware only .22's are made in Ontario. The original barrel will say where it was made.

Good looking barrel though. What'd that bad boy run you?

600$+tx+ship

Too bad i was really hoping for it
Original barrel is sold so i cannot see it anymore
Still enjoy the flexibility and cost of starting with a 10TR
If this build proves to be sub 1/2 moa, next 10TR, i will sell unused new barrel, stock, mag, rail, accutrigger, and should end up with a 300$ receiver/bolt combo

What length of foreend is that on the ESS?

15’’

We need range report on accuracy once you get it going.

Will do
Got an OCW already loaded up in 0.3gr increments starting at 41.5gr all the way up to 45.1gr if i can get there
175 SMK, Lapua brass, CCI BR2 primers, Varget powder
I have been told that since lands are at a sharp lead angle, i can easily find them (even if i just slightly push or JAM using OAL gauge, results are the same), but pressure can climb up way faster
The reason why the starting point is that low

The 3/4'' brake can be put on tighter hand tight, so i will shoot and see before i apply red loctight to see if it's needed.

You can index the brake and use blue Loctite and it will work fine, and will be easier to remove in the future.

How did the increase in muzzle thread effect your muzzle device selection?

Heavily limiting
I knew which brake i wanted before i knew which barrel i wanted.
Insite arms heathens
Also had it for factory barrel and couldn’t be happier
Gets the job done while looking great

Will give it a try if needed, before going red

Let me know when you get it out Marty. All the test barrels I shot hovered around the 1/2 MOA mark with 175 Fed Gold Medal match. I'm sure it will do very well with your handloads!

Hi Ryan, just got my match trigger installed and everything reassembled.
Will post initial results once i get em, as i am really excited to shoot this canadian made barrel
If everything goes as planned, saturday is initial load dev, then after that will be the real testing.

I got the chance to go out today.
Wasn't ideal situations, , cold and windy, but was very eager to try it out.
I know 3 shot groups do not count so to speak, it was just for preliminary testing and look for pressure signs, headspace and such.

Given that PRS tactical division has a 2800 FPS limit, and that for a few groups there was a lab radar around i got to test, i believe more extensive testing is to follow around the 43.0gr mark.
Group 1 is not on there as it was shooting way too high with new barrel.
So far velocities are awesome compared to my factory savage barrel, it is 2'' longer but did not expect such a velocity jump.
Headspace clocked at 1.6285/1.629'' after all, i might of put a bit too much pressure while torquing barrel nut with GO gauge in, since i reload i figure i'll keep it that way.

I also like how groups shrink getting to group 6 then open up once out of it, it is a very good indication so far that my low node is around 43.0gr
Because of velocity limits if ever i wish to compete, i will not chase higher node.
Even my last group in the low 45grs, did not show the slightest pressure sign.

Nice progress Marty. Had my 10TR out today in its MDT chassis for the first time and loaded 5 rounds of 42.5 to 44.5 grains in .5 grain increments. Found the same thing. Really strong groups at 42.5 and 43 grains, beyond that the groups started to open up.

I was at EOSC, iirc you are at another range right?
What powder and bullets you use?
Myself with varget and 175smk, my factory 10TR barrel produced best groups at 43.0gr, just like i am seeing today.
Today’s groups are smaller and in all though, but 3 shot groups so doesn’t count

Yeah, I'm out at Stittsville.

Varget, Nosler brass and 168gr Hornady Match BTHP bullets. Based on what I had read I figured 42.5-43 would be the sweet spot and it appears that will be the case. The best group had 4 shots touching and 1 flyer. Ironically the flyer was the first shot of the group, lol. I'm going to need to seat the bullets just a little deeper into the cases as I'm seating them too long to fit in the MDT magazines. Apparently Savage mags are quite a bit larger.

I'd suggest giving the Nosler 175gr RDFs a try. If they shoot well in your barrel, they have a much better BC than the SMKs. 42.4 gr of Varget gives me 2750fps in a 26" Benchmark barrel. I think it's a fast load of Varget though cause the last 2 jugs I was at 43.3 for the same speed for something like 3000+ rounds.
