After reading all I could about the 10/22, I went out to buy one. I had never held one before. Based on great reviews and reliability, I decided this is what I wanted.....until I actually held one. 1st I held a base model blued synthetic. I was surprised how cheap and small it felt. I worked my way up through the line. wood stock stainless etc. Man, I liked them on the net, but I just can't like these guns in real life! Am I the only one who discovered that these things are built on the cheap for little kid frames? or so it seems in my opinion!

We have the Stainless version I found it a little small for me but it's my wife's gun so kind of worked out..it shoots okay for a cheap stock gun

I really like them, especially if you get a good one that performs well and shoots accurate hang on to it. Tons of aftermarket stuff available, and upgrades. Perhaps not a full size and weight rifle, but they do have a place. Thats why they are so popular.

Mine is a keeper, but I have a more solid factory plastic stock on mine. I'm 6'3" tall and the "smallness" of it is just fine, makes it more handy.

by the time you spend more money to get it right the price of your 10-22 doubled. I had one sold it before i put any funds into it - shot good though but after 4k rounds things were starting to wear

That's the down side into pouring money into a cheap gun you don't recover your money at any point

Shot good yet needs twice its cost in upgrades? What was wearing down? Ive had mine for almost 5 years and went through 2 cases and a bit of mini mags last year alone, think im $130ish into it with a power custom hammer and a hogue stock, factory barrel shoots 1" @50 yards with a crisp 3.75#lb trigger. No need to double the cost or pour money into it. The factory triggers are pretty bad though, granted much better than any comparable semi auto 22lr.

What was wearing? 4000 rounds isn’t even broke in. I’ve got a 18 year old carbine with well over 100,000 rounds down the tube, I’ve never had to do a thing to it yet.

Well thanks for the points of view guys. Reports of stellar reliability is what attracted me to the 10/22's so that's a great thing. Just can't get over the feel of them. What are some other good semi8 options?

Josh 1976, your signature line reads I've never met a gun I didn't like
It may need to be changed, as it is no longer accurate.:)

They are cheap, and unreliable. unless you want to dump money into a new gun. Not saying every one they made is a lemon, but the one I bought was!

Almost every other semi auto 22 ive handled is smaller and or more "toyish" than a 1022,comparable ones ive personally owned are the marlin 60, 70 and a 795, and a savage 64. My sister has a 597 and ive found all not only cheaper looking and smaller overall, but also feel cheaper that the 1022. Your definitely gonna want to handle some first if you didnt like the ruger before you buy

If you want a solid full size 22,try to find a Savage model 6a. Or a Winchester 490. Both are out of production now but are very good.
