Hey guys and gals: I have a line on a used sam 1911 in stainless and i wanted to know if they are just "finished to look stainless" OR are they a true stainless frame and slide ?? The reason i ask is i want a high polished stainless 1911 in 9mm and the one i am considering has a few scratches on the finish. Now i don't mind spending time sanding and buffing up a pistol to get rid of light scratches etc to get that mirror finish. But if it isn't true stainless all i am going to do is sand off the finish to bare metal that will rust. With a true stainless i think i would be a lot happier as i can keep it looking great and i am anal about such things. I just dont have a 1000 dollar budjet or more for a colt, sti, or kimber hence looking at under 500 for a used one i can bring back to bling.

So if anyone has a stainless sam 1911 please chime in with your thoughts.

Skoal: I wish wolverine still had some but they are sold out and sam is no longer making anything stainless. l sent them an email and so far have heard nothing back after 3 attempts.

I ment to ask them if their stainless or not,I'm pretty sure the one I had was actually stainless however it's been awhile but I seen one that had the flats polished on it.

I never had a stainless one, but if it is called stainless, it should be.
The blue ones seemed good value. ask the guy who has it?

Wolverine are no longer the agents for Shooters Arms, and yes they are solid stainless steel, and yes they do still make them, no you cannot buy one direct from SAM as they don't sell to the public, but they are coming back, there is a new deal in the works for a new distributorship for Canada and they should be back before the end of the year.

Is it magnetic? 300 series SS is not magnetic. If it is, then you could check the SAM specs to find a material of construction. If it is a 400 series SS it may be magnetic. But if it isn't you are good to go; you are pretty safe to assume it is 300 series and you can polish & buff to your heart's content without fear of rust.
One cautionary note: If it is 300 series SS you should not use carbon steel wire wool to polish with as you can impregnate CS filaments into the SS base material. This ruptures the oxide layer and will cause rust spots and eventually pitting corrosion.

Not sure where you get your information but I can assure you we are still dealing direct with SAM!

I would like to investigate this further. We have a standard we strive to achieve here of responding to every e-mail we receive within 2 working days.
Please e-mail me directly so I can look into this for you. guy@wolverinesupplies.com

To Everyone on this thread:

I recently posted that i tried to email Wolverine supplies 3 times with no reply. I apologize to the folks at Wolverine as i misspelled the address and they would never have received those emails. This was my fault entirely and i hope that everyone continues to support a great business.

Here is a picture of a stainless 9mm SAM 1911. Sorry, it's the only picture I have right now. It is the top right one.

I purchased two stainless slides and one stainless frame for a couple of builds the slides are beaded and polished stainless the frame came stainless with a bright plated nickel finish you can buff through the plate finish if you are not aware of the plate. It is the first time I have seen a plated stainless frame . all and all the Sam components work well a lot of fitting but all the holes are in the right place a lot better than some Colts I have worked on . Wolverine has been a lot of help on several Sam builds .

that pic of mine is the way it came from Wolverine.

i keep that gun pretty and sparkly and if my career should ever fail my plan is to become a pimp and that gun will be my enforcer.

I never claimed you were not dealing with Shooters, what I said is you are no longer their recognized distributor for Canada and I know this to be a fact, I also know that they are looking to someone else to become their Canadian distributor for the brand and my information is rock solid and direct from Shooters.
