I recently received an installed the CASM Gen 2 on my M305, and I am impressed with the fit and ease of installation. My only hang-up, and it's not a huge concern for me, but the rear vertical screw blocks roughly half of the back-up peep sight. I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly, the instructions are just about fool proof. Anyone else have this issue?

I realise I could have ground down the top of that screw prior to loctiting everything in place, and I don't think I care enough to install all over again, but I am curious. What gives?

I was in the same situation. Before the bolt broke and I had to remove the whole locktited assembly to send for warranty repair that is.

Rear screw blocks half the peep hole on the steel CASM. I was planning on drilling the top of the screw through the hole with an HSS bit. Maybe someone smarter here has a better solution.

It really is a ''back up'' not all that usable sight anyway, since you can't adjust it.

Thanks for the reply. I called Frank at M14.ca and apparently this is due to the flat in the rear sight base being machined slightly higher then other rifles and is not uncommon. He recommended that I file down the bottom portion of the rear screw where it makes contact with the reciever. I dont think I care enough to do that, but there you go.

It makes sense, Ill do that when I reassemble it.

Thanks for the follow up!

I reinstalled my CASM on my new rifle. I filed the rear main screw as stated here and it worked well.

The screw is some hard steel though, cheap canadian tire files would not cut, I had to use an old file. I filed about 1/4'' and it installed just the same, now I can see well through the peep. With low rings a 3-9X40 obscures a lot of the channel. Ill be looking for smaller objective scope to circumvent this.

Yeah, just did mine as well, because I am an idiot I forgot about the set screws and butchered the two vertical screws as well as the two horizontal ones. Good thing Frank sent me extras. I ended up taking a dremel to the rear vertical screw, but I now have an un-obstructed BUIS. My cheek riser renders it completely unusable, but should my scope fail, the riser is easily removable and now I at least have something for a rear sight.
