Legality. TC encore 15" barrel. "The Unique beast"

No not at all I actually prefer the original frame even though you have to break open the action to reset the trigger every time unlike a G2 or Encore.

Also the trigger guard on the G2 frames is a lot smaller than the original frames makes it tough to get a gloved finger in onto the trigger.

Thanks I wondered.
Do you think your 375 JDJ would be up to taking an elk? Who makes reasonably priced 375 JDJ dies? I have sourced a 15" 375 JDJ barrel for my Encore but was wondering where to get dies without going broke.

My 14" 375JDJ barrel gives me almost exactly the same velocities as my 21" 375 Win barrel so yes it will easily take an elk = I'd shoot the 14" barrel out to 200 yards on elk and moose I also have a 21" barrel in 375JDJ loaded with 260gr Accubonds @ 2300fpsI would shoot out to 300 yards on elk and moose.

No idea who makes dies I bought my set off of CGN years ago.

I don't have a desire for a 375JDJ on an Encore frame I have a shortened to 22" Prohunter barrel in 375H&H and if I could get my hands on a 376 Steyr I'd sell the H&H in a heart beat...

A little off topic but this might be the place to ask. I have a contender, what is the restriction if I want a second barrel ? Are the barrels restricted, do I need to let Maramiche know what I buy? I know the 25&32 barrels are prohibited device and can not be removed and put in safe. Are all others only receiver restricted? Thanks AJ

In "Canada" you can have as many barrels as you want not sure about what the Quebec registry is demanding though...

If it is a Contender pistol only the frame is restricted, the barrels are not. I could legally put a pistol barrel on my carbine and it would still be non-restricted. AFAIK you don't have to report new barrels to the CFC even if you have a restricted pistol and certainly not if it is a NR rifle.

The three 14" barrels I posted pics of are all pistol barrels and legal to be installed on my Contender carbine frames key is overall length the barrels have to be long enough to give you over 26" OAL.

Example one combo I have for kids is I install a 16.5" 22LR barrel onto a carbine frame then shortened the butt stock overall length is 26 3/8" long as my son's grew taller the butt stock had sections replaced making it longer until they moved up to standard length of pull butt stocks I sometimes carry this combo in my day pack for grouse while I am out hunting and I now have two grandsons that will learn to shoot with this combo in a few years.

Due to these restricted barrels already being classed as restricted you can legally shorten them even more if you wanted as long as the overall length of the carbine/rifle/shotgun is over the legal overall length requirement that works out to just over 26" why I ent 26 3/8" on the 22LR combo.

So there is no misunderstanding no you cannot shorten a barrel that was manufactured longer than 18.5" shorter than 18.5" you'd get arrested for that.

On the Contender 32-20 it is a prohib, I can not remove
Barrel as the barrel is a prohibited device (same as a Dan Wesson multi barrel set- must keep prohib barrel attached). I rechambered the barrel and now waiting for new registration. Glad to know I can pick up a second barrel to change with, when the new form comes. Thanks

CC, you might want to check a few of these "facts" with the CFC.

The OAL does not matter as long as the gun was not cut, folded, collapsed or otherwise altered to get to that length (read the definitions of restricted and prohibited on the CFC website). If you can bolt together unaltered "factory" components and the result is less than 26" it is still NR, ie Ranch Hands. They don't consider changing "factory" barrels to be altering these guns.

Your example one had to be over 26" because you shortened the buttstock, if you had a "factory" short lop buttstock and the gun was under 26", OAL wouldn't matter, ie Mare's Legs

No barrels are restricted on these guns (other than a couple of bizarre prohibs because of caliber), only the frames thus if you put a short "factory" barrel on your NR carbine and it came out under 26" OAL it would still be NR as long as it didn't get that way from cutting, folding, collapsing or altering (you can adjust lop a reasonable amount and still be within the law) You could shorten a pistol barrel but then the gun must be over 26" OAL as it got that way by cutting the barrel. If you got a really short barrel made by MGM or Brown and put it on then the OAL would not matter.

If your messing around with this on your TC, assume you have better options. Try shooting it at dusk, probably a 2ft fireball. Nice novelty item to make everyone giggle and unless they all have double ear protection....deaf. When the novelty wears off, you should be able to get your money back.

Been doing this for years and yes I have discussed this several times over the years with the CFC I would not post info like this that I have not verified first.
