So spent a few hours on the range this morning (Brisk -10c did not make easy) and this is only my second trip to the range with my CZ.

I recently swapped the stock on my CZ 455 Cdn with a boyd Evo so that was reason enough to brave the cold but in addition I just got a Ruger 10/22 Stock Carbine so it needed sighting in.

Lets talk Ruger first:

Ammo used was Winchester bulk from Cabelas. No misfeed or failure to eject but you have to carefully look at the ammo, i had one round that was bent and the other had a squashed in nose. But overall ok. I also did a set with some Browning BPR to compare.

So the result at 30m:

As you can see, the Winchester had the better group (that surprised me) Best group was 22mm (or 17mm adjusted) and my 4 group average was 26.5mm

On to the CZ 455:

Ammo used was Browning BPR from Cabelas. No misfeed or failure to eject. This is the ammo i used to sight in after purchase. No issues with that ammo. I was getting cold but decided to try some CCI std vel to compare. Point of impact was quite different with the CCI but the groups become smaller instantly.

The result at 30m:

No surprise that the CCI std vel did better. Best group was 14mm (9mm adjusted) and four group avg was 17.25mm.

I also fired a few rounds at silhouette tgt I made from yoga pads and I am surprised by how well they worked. Both tgt took hits well and for the price, they will last a few hundreds plus each.

I tried the Browning BPR a month ago with my CZs and was disappointed with it, inconsistent groups and more than twice the size of my Winchester and CCI groups, CCI standard velocity target is my favourite right now.

Rimfire forum in the states has several threads on the browning ammo , no one seems to be happy with it. I put my 452 scout in an evo stock and am quite happy with one caveat, weight

To unleash the full potential of your CZ, you must buy better ammunition than the Browning ammo.
Bulk ammo is generaly mass produced, low quality and low quality controled ammunition.
You have a great precision rimfire rifle, you must feed it with good ammo.

The CCI Std is a pretty good quality/price value. You should try brands like Eley's, SK, RWS and Lapua...

Most people shoot their .22 at 50y.

Your stock 10/22 is another story...

Plan is to upgrade the stock, hammer and bolt release in the future

I think the inference is that it takes allot to get a 10/22 shooting well...and by "allot"...it means replacing key component parts with those made by people OTHER than Ruger. The ongoing debate is whether or not it's worth it, whether or not buying a NEW $350+ fixer-upper makes any sense at all, etc.

As for the CZ~yep, the more you spend on ammo, the better the results will be...BUT...I also realize that not everybody has match-grade expectations or requirements. Sort of the base-line for decent ammo is CCI Standard Velocity, and for the cost of that stuff...really...nobody should be complaining about using it. lol Part of getting to know ANY rimfire is testing every type of ammo you can get your hands on, and I don't think doing that at 30m is a terrible idea...but...it's also almost no indication of a gun's potential either. 50 yards is much better, so get those guns on a very steady rest (when things warm up a little :) )...feed them some good ammo, and watch the groups tighten. Especially with the CZ...but the 10/22 will be better too.

Thanks for posting, I like range reports with photos any time!

If you have the funds try SK plus or Sk pistol match or rifle match. They are a little more expensive than CCi. Most CZ’s seem to like a variant of the SK line

Hi there,

I can only recommend getting the Volquartsen hammer & release set from Sylvestre Sporting Goods | Bonnyville, Alberta Sports Store. This made a huge difference in my Ruger (same as yours, just with a laminate stock). The other thing I would like to mention is, try the Sellier & Bellot Standard ammo. It's readily available at Canadian Tire for $4.99 or sometimes $3.99 and it is as good as SK Standard and certainly CCI Standard in my CZ 455 and the Ruger. I also use it in my Marlin heavy barrel and it's very good in that as well. Can't beat it for the price.

^nothing I own/shoot likes that stuff, including my CZ452. Their HV ammo~even worse results. For me.

I am not using HV ammo in anything anymore, because the groups open up and are far less accurate than standard velocity. Hence I recommend the S&B Standard. I have never even found any other S&B around here.

I picked up a CZ 452 2E ZKM yesterday and the rifle is gorgeous and with 525 federal value packs it shot a 1.5 inch group with Irons at 100m.... very happy with it. My 10/22 is at ruger getting a new barrel under warranty for a misaligned rear sight. The CZ on the other hand is oerfect. Also in comparison to the 10/22 the CZ 512 is accurate and has next to no recoil impulse where the 10/22 is just light. Eventually when my 10/22 gets back I will fairly test them side by side but I think the 10/22 Will get sold.

I have a CZ455 Canadian and a Ruger and I wouldn't get rid of either one. Love them for different reasons and don't think they are a fair comparison to each other for accuracy.

Most CZs like Sk plus or SK Pistol Match it will tighten up those groups, an now I’ve sent you down the rabbit hole
