M14 restricted/prohib?

The whole reclassification of non-restricted semi-auto to restricted will be a VERY, VERY long process and nightmare.

It would be easier (not cheaper) if the government said "every semi you bring in that you don't want to keep we will give you 2000$"

Not if they OIC it on us. That was the one thing of C-42 that worried me. We didn’t think Harper would lose.

Doesn't matter... how would they know where are the NR firearms are?? Trust people being honest? pouhahahaa... again, they would need a positive incentive to get any meaningful results.

They tried with the VZ and SA. Most were NR too. But this time, we got a red party at the helm.

As for compliance, that’s another issue....

I'm quoting Ottawa, taken from another thread;

I talked to the libs about a buy back and they would rather suck pony peckers than pay a gun owner aka Satan's soldiers.

Everything is speculative, so we can't discount any possibility (good and/or bad) before actual decisions/laws are made public. I haven't seen any facts on this upcoming rumored change.

Agreed.

I was only stating what a well known "source" had to say on the subject. And I would hazard a guess and say that our "source" aka Ottawa, has nothing more than speculation to offer either.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, non-facts can drive a lot of reactions... in this case, good since more people are buying AR lowers, bad since it's showing the worst out of people.

I've met and collaborated with "Ottawa" on a couple projects. He worked on the Hill until someone got scared about him and guns, and talking to political people. He was fired from a long time job on the slimmest of grounds. But, along the way "Ottawa" cultivated a very good set of relationships with people in the know and in the right offices. He could be completely wrong, but until the Bill is tabled, his is the best source of inside information we've got on CGN.

I'm in no way trying to discredit the man. I've read a lot of what he posts on here and I appreciate (appreciate being an understatement) everything he does. But the truth still is that, in this current situation, he has offered nothing of substance. Just more speculation being thrown on the pile.

The RCMP has already come out and said they want to ban the M305 (can't remember if they wanted to restrict or prohibit it), like they did the Swiss Arms rifles.
It was in that memo to Steven Blaney that was leaked when the Conservatives were the government.

Canada has a history of grandfathering and also confiscating, so it can go either way.

Non-compliance with a turn-in/confiscation order is small comfort. It's not like you'll be able to take it out and use it without serious repercussions

Can't wait to see the official reasons for ANY reclassification.

Will it really matter? They can pretty much come up with anything they want. My memory is foggy and my web-fu weak.
The RCMP may have wanted the M304/M14 type rifles banned because 1) the Moncton shooting in 2014 and 2) it's a military rifle

FFS, stop wasting bandwidth with rumours and BS speculation.

Not sure how much proof you and others want. We've got a CBC reporter hinting at it. We've got numerous sources other than Ottawa leaking it. Multiple news sources quoting it. And to top it all off we've got Justin coming unglued on one of his own because he was concerned about the bill and how it would affect him and his re-election chances. If even the Lieberals are concerned that's more than rumor and speculation. And that tirade and the fear have both been reported by the Liberal news outlets.

If only the actual Bill will satisfy you as proof - great. Wait until Tuesday. Just remember that it's a lot easier to pass a law than it is to get it repealed later. And that's the situation we'll be in
