3 cougars killed after attacking Vancouver Island farm animals

Yes. Seriously.

Do you honestly think that the farmer has to justify to his neighbors a perfectly legal killing of a problematic kitty? Please FO! You obviously have no clue about the legal protection of livestock.

Let the neighbours report it. See how long it takes for them to get put in their place.

As a farmer he has the legal RIGHT to shoot problematic wildlife. No legal obligation to report it to anyone. Shoot, shovel and shut up. Now all he has to do is learn to shoot.

If he had the competence to handle the situation properly, on his own, this wouldn't even be a story.

I shoot to protect my livestock on a regular basis. There is absolutely NO reason for LEGALLY killed nuisance wildlife like these cats to make headlines.

If anyone doesn't like this they can all go back to Snowflakeville where they can all live happily ever after.

This whole thing is a non-story.

Not sure what province your in, but would say your wrong on some of what you post.

I live in the area not far from where the cougars were shot. There has been more cougar sightings over the last decade. There is an elementary school in the area and a cougar was spotted by the children in the bush behind the school playground. This happened a few years ago. The cougar was snarling at the kids, so I was told. Those cougars were shot by CO's, there were three cougars, a mother and two young ones. My neighbour was walking his dog and spotted a cougar, it went up a tree, this was a day or two before these last cats were shot. It's one thing if a farm animal gets killed by a cougar but entirely different if a child was killed. Then it's a real concern.

Sadly more children are killed at schools by guns, knives, drugs, bullying, riding the bus to school etc etc
way more to be concerned about then the sighting of a cougar.

True, but it is a concern if cougars are hanging around near a school. If it happened there will be an outcry. I've lived on the Island my entire life, so I already know that it's unlikely. The last time it happened was in Gold River, a young boy was killed by a cougar. It must be a concern cause the CO's shot the cougars. :)

Don't
Not only is he right on shooting wild predators harassing his livestock, he has the right to shoot your pet dog if it's chasing his livestock!

I'm not sure exactly where these cougars were shot, if it happened on the east side of the inland island highway it is illegal to shoot a firearm using a single projectile. All of the farms in this area are on the east side.

I was attacked by a cougar at the 55 special on a Wednesday night in Barrie a few years back. I barely survived. Lucky for my it was my turn to DD so I still had me wits about me.
