B.C. bow hunter who mistakenly killed a grizzly ordered to pay $8K fine

Sounds like a cheap grizzly hunt to me...

Laugh2...........awww Rickie, that be funny chit.

Me thinks the twanger shuddah kept hizz mouth shut.
Admitting to ahhhh mizztake will cost you.
Plead fruck'in insanititty.
Thing charged me.

If all else fails, he'll be able to I.D. a fruck'in bear.

My only concern with this is the stiffness of the fine. I am sure there of been other caught poaching with full intent to break the law who have received lesser fines

Fine sounds about right. It's about time people starting paying for their mistakes. This hunter had no clue he had harvested a grizzly. Read another article that stated Conservation Officer Service launched its investigation after the hunter brought the ear tags to BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations office in Powell River to enquire if the bear’s meat was edible.

This fine is small compared to the fine that life is going to levy... there tends to be a heavy fee for stupidity.

Some thoughts:

Anyone who uses fur color as the determining factor into the species of Bear is a fool when there are so many other determinant identifying factors. I tracked a G bear for a friend to kill after I had filled my tag that was creamy white with 4 brown paws. No, it wasn't a Kermode or Glacier bear.

I was in Eric Gander's taxidermy in Surrey B.C. when an FN showed up with a massive bighorn head that he wanted mounted. Eric asked to see the paperwork and checked for the inspection plug that BC wildlife officers install at the back of the horn after ensuring the Ram was a legal kill. The young man announced that he didn't need any licence, tag, paperwork or inspection because he was a FN member. Eric wouldn't mount the head without it being a legal kill so the young man left, came back a few hours later with retro-active paperwork from the government.

The fine for illegally hunting bears is set high so as to remove the profit motive from killing them. Asians will pay big bucks for bear paws to make soup out of, and gall bladders and ##### bones for their herbal medicine.

Lol some dickhead always has to bring that up. How the hell is that relevant to what happened??

You call him a 'dickhead', I call him a patriot. People from B.C. are sick and tired of FN members ignoring any and all concept of conservation. Members of the Capilano Indian Band in North Vancouver used to steal shopping carts from the grocery store in the Park Royal mall and throw them in the Capilano river to use as fish traps, then leave them there to rust after the salmon run....but you go ahead and keep apologizing for them, OK?

I always shake my head at those comments as well. Might as well say, if only he had a grizzly tag and it was open season, this would have been a non-event.

What a dumb post....if the hunter was first nations, mistaking the grizzly for a black and killing it WOULD be A NON ISSUE!

Seem like a mistake and he do the right thing on call the forester
The fine is ok for me but a full year ban for reporting sound bad to me if soneone shoot or mistake a specie next time is gonna run and never go back
I was moose hunting in north quebec in a reserve draw tag
The population was low due to FN and poaching
The next day of the hunt we seem 2 pick up no license pass up whit one cow and 2 curb we report it the forester say thos are fn he can do nothing that why the population was declined to much FN kill everything the see so the specie never have a chance grow again
My uncle as a tag hunt this reserve last year and barely see some alone female we never go there lost if time
