I just wanted to highlight a product I bought that allows me to securely display my rifles.
I am a firm believer that responsible gun ownership involves taking meaningful steps to properly secure your guns. Not only should one lock them up as per the regulations, but you should also take steps that prevent a for a casual B&E crook from simply walking off with your guns. In my opinion (and opinions differ), leaving long guns in a closet with a trigger lock, or under the back seat of the truck overnight, just isn't good enough.
With all of that said, when I set up my "gun room", I liked the idea of having the milsurps of my collection visibly on display, but still secure. It seems like there were very few options available to do this, short of having a locking gun rack custom fabricated. Other options like running a light metal cable through the guns like most gun stores do seemed pretty flimsy.
Luckily I found this nifty product:

I set up the racks inside a windowless room in my basement, and also secured the room itself with a solid reinforced dead-bolted door. The racks are metal, but rubber coated so they don't bang up the guns, and work just as advertised. I've got a wide variety of bolt action and semi-auto milsurps and they all fit nicely into the rack. Large 3-inch bolts into the wall studs secure the rack itself.
Of course no system is completely thief proof, but I think this gives me a nice balance of security and display.
