As an annual gift to myself around tax time I purchase
myself a new mold of better quality to replace some of
my older Lee molds that I have had for many years. The
new mold is a Arsenal 4 cavity 170 gr. .311" Ranch Dog
clone that I had cut 50/50 two with gas checks and two
plain base bullets for plinker loads since I don't use a
gas checks for those anyways. I really like the nice
large meplat as it will make a great hunting bullet,
can't wait till next weekend to cast up a bunch. Should
keep my Sav. 170 pump gun fed for years to come.

Thanks Guys, I wanted the NOE version of that original Ranch Dog mold but Al hasn't had one in inventory in a couple years now, I was able to get this one at Arsenal for $87 US shipped to my door. This will be my first plain base bullet for a rifle and since I shoot lots of plinker loads in the 30-30 with the gas check left off the plain base just made sense to me. Know that I powder coat I can just use one of my colors to coat those bullets to designate that load for quick reference.

I just started a new job working four ten hour days so Friday if I don't have to do any OT will be the day I get do some casting and hopefully over the weekend I can shoot a few test loads with a couple different powders, but I will definitely pass along some pics and any data I gather.


I bet those bullets would shoot great in my Mosin! Congrats on the new mold! I’m very happy with my NOE molds.

Hard to say as both my Mosin rifles have .312" groove bores, It just depends on what diameter the bullet cast at and if I PC it what I can size it too. My 1945 M44 might give me my best shot at it as I've coated a Lee 170 gr. bullet and it shoot well in that rifle as it has a short throat. The 1933 M91/30 has a pretty deep throat on it, it's not worn just was reamed for the old 200+ gr. RN bullet that was first used in those rifle before the 147 is gr. bullet became a standard.

So not wanting to wait till another production run came about I went ahead and order the 170 gr. version with standard grease grooves from Arsenal. Arsenal also has the TL version as well as the SC version, I also like the ability to split my 4 cavity mold 50/50.
 
Mine is the one you were wanting with standard grooves. Last year there was a mold I wanted that wasn't in stock so I emailed him. 2 days later got a reply with it being in stock.
 
You have just received one of the best bullet molds on the market. Al at NOE (Night Owl Enterprises) makes an excellent product and has a bullet proof warrantee.
At this time the NOE mold is the only one I will purchase if I need a new mold.

Now the issue is finding enough lead to feed that beauty...

My last mold from Al was a 311465 loverin for 30 caliber low velocity plinking, and maybe some higher velocity too.

A few years back I sent Al a number of 311465 122 grain loverin bullets from my single cavity lyman mold, and with in a month he had the mold as a stock item on his website

I just realized that your new mold isn’t not actually made by NOE!! Lol! I thought Arsenal was a store that sold NOE molds because it looks exactly the same as an NOE.

I just went through Arsenal Molds web site and found a couple of molds that I’d like. Looks like their prices are reasonable as well. How were they to deal with? Shipping over the border was fine? Any duty?
