Cases for your milsurp

Hey everyone, I've just recently gotten into the gun world and Milsurp in particular.

I am curious what people recommend for cases for their rifles, as well ammo Cans.


My main rifles I am going to be acquiring first are an M1 Garand and K98 (avid ww2 historian).

So i am just kind of seeing what you all like to use for cases (Hard/Soft) etc and why, as well any recommendation for places to purchase said cases as they tend to be longer rifles. Same goes for Ammo can's.

I know Ammo will not be cheap for either one of these rifles, so i am hoping to eventually get into reloading once my experience comes up but that's for another discussion.

Enfield's have actual cases so I would buy one if you ever come across one.

Otherwise they all fit in my Canadian tire oversized flambeau case. can often fit two guns in there

I use the inexpensive Flambeau case for my rifles, I have 3 of them and they fit everything even with scopes.

However 2 years later review
the sponge has shrunk inside the case. for smaller/narrow ballerina rifles I cover them in a towel or soft cheap rifle case using the flambeau really only as a hard shell now. They work well at first but long term you are better off buying the more expensive long lasting cases.

As an example when a SKS is placed in the box and held up it slips to the bottom of the box.

Strange I have had for 3 years and don't have that problem. My foam shrunk a bit but only notice during high winds. It was a snug fit not so much now.

My issue with the foam is that it holds CLP really well. Every time I use the case one rifle has a spot of CLP on it. first world problem though
 
I bought a large aluminum 2 gun case a few years ago. Name tag is gone. No problem with fitting my longest guns. Expensive case but worth it in the end. Reloading is definitely the way to go especially if you have some of the oddball military calibers.

You spend a lot of money on your firearms, so putting it in a case when going to shoot it is a good insurance that it will not be injured. Spend a bit more money and get a fairly good one.

However, NEVER store a firearm in a case or especially in a soft padded gun case, unless you want a RUSTY firearm. The cases tend to draw moisture from the atmosphere, and restrict air circulation inside them. This particularly applies to duck hunters, and firearms used in damp areas and times.

That said, I am fond of good double side-by-side shotguns, so for these I make my own wood carrying cases. It is not that difficult to do.

So would you recommend I just have the rifle out with a trigger lock until I get a safe or?
 
I store rifles in a safe and I transport them in a padded bag, I store ammo in metal ammo cans I got them at princess auto or Costco. Never had an issue with guns rusting in a padded bag but I don’t put them away wet unless it’s wet from being oiled, spray a bit of g96 on the inside of the bag if you’re worried.
