I have been thinking about adding an Rmr on a hi cap Rock Island Armory 1911,but I don’t see a whole lot of them out there, rds on 1911s that is,just wondering if there is a reason for that. Also if anyone has had it done how did you do it,cheap way would be a mounting plate that goes in the rear sight slot for $100 give or take.or mill the slide($150-$220)and then buy a trijicon mount with built in back ups($250 min).
Thanks in advance

I think it really depends on how much you want to spend. Or if you are looking for a set up to co-witness. Nighthawk uses the trijicon RMR 1911 mount and it comes with the suppressor height sights.
I really like the look of the mount on the Nighthawk—I like how it tapers in to match the slide's width.

I just put one on my 1911 45, vortex verom with that Burris base that is shown, mine has a Novak base, slide the sight out, install the dovetail in the cut and set the base on top, then screw the sight down on top.
It sits right down on the slide, works great, the vortex sits lower than the Burris fast fire does, bit more money, but not much.
I have a sig mount, but have not tried it yet, have to get another sight I guess, damn, no end to it.

Have you found someone do the work and where do you plan on sourcing the base? I have been wanting to get this setup on my 1911.

black box custom is doing the milling, slide milling $210,ceracote slide $150,trijicon rmr mounting plate with back up irons $280 if I remember correctly so $640 all told plus the rmr,so not cheap by any mens.
