This weekend i happened to stop at the 17th street Wal-Mart to grab a few things and noticed they were clearing out almost all of their ammo. The only stuff left that I could use was 12 ga steel shot but there was quite a bit of centre fire ammo left.
Has anyone else seen other stores clearing out or was it possibly just this store moving inventory?

So far in my area one Walmart has cleaned out their ammo locker. No scopes,no ammo, no hunting knives,no gps. They still have leftover hunting clothing, belts the odd camo pack sack

Well lets hope they get out of ammo all together. Gives more business to small shops who actually know something about the product they sell.

I disagree. Where else can I buy ammo at 10pm, otw out of town for the weekend? Or on a Sunday. Practically every lgs around me is closed Sunday (one of 5 are open Sundays, and they've got the highest ammo prices.)

I have noticed the most recent new Walmarts (2 of them, coquitlam center and royal city center) opened don't carry ammo. They are smaller stores located in malls though so that might be a factor.

The same thing has been happening at the Walmart stores around here for quite some time. they just renovated one store and I kept walking by the hunting department and to my dismay no ammo . when I was in the US they had tons of it in the Walmart I went into. it's not right .

I've heard of various Walmart stores doing this. They put all the ammo on clearance and once it's gone, get rid of the ammo section and convert it to something else. My guess would be there's a certain minimum revenue per square foot for a section like that to be allowed to remain. I've heard of various Walmart's clearing out all their ammunition, usually urban or city stores, and then expand other sections. More rural stores that I would expect have higher ammunition sales tend to keep them. If they were doing it for political reasons they'd likely make a big announcement to try to make themselves look good.

Occasionally a store will also increase the size of their ammunition section if demand is high enough and the potential revenue makes it worthwhile. I've never personally seen that happen with a Walmart but have with a Canadian Tire. One store added a second cabinet for ammo and started stocking pistol ammo regularly. I asked a supervisor about it and he said they had a lot of requests for pistol ammo and their ammo sales were higher than most other Canadian Tire stores in the area so they added another cabinet. It was for the sake of profits, not solidarity with gun owners.

I very much disagree with this. I think its very beneficial to the shooting community to have ammunition and gun stuff next to toasters and windshield washer fluid. It reinforces the notion that there is nothing wrong with firearms.

Anyways, I have a walmart 10 minutes south of me which is still selling ammo, and another 10 minutes north or me that just got rid of it. Neither of them are urban stores.

This makes sense. Most CT around here have limited supplies of ammo, one or two double wide cabinets. The one in Vernon has almost an entire isle, with a wide selection of both more obscure calibers and variety in the common stuff (i counted no less than 7 different types of 270, and I mean different brands or bullets, not just weight of the pill.)

They are getting rid of ammo here too. There is little market for it despite their being best price. The issue is that there is only one employee who can issue ammo and she is part time.

Walmarts around here are bare. couple boxes of common hunting cals, some 22's and shotgun shells but mainly bare. No pellets. HECK one put damn trigger locks behind glass.

That's a big issue. There is always someone with access to the ammo case at the ones I've shopped at.

#### Walmart! They haven’t done much for most small, independent retailers, or small town downtowns. Rabidly against good wages, and certainly against anything approaching a union wage.

I bought some of their clearance ammo probably 6 years ago and have not shopped there since. I don’t think that store ever restocked ammo. But have fun going there for the made in in China crap.....
