Back to the thread. One I hear is that hunting rifles should be synthetic and stainless. I’m very fond of stylish walnut and blued steel.
They hold up to far more than I would or could ever deliver. The world wars are
Proof of that.
 
Of the 3 most common/popular chamberings available in the Marlin lever rifles, the best overall ballistics award goes to the 32 Win Spl and not the 35 Rem as one might expect. Maybe...

-3030 will bounce off a moose's hide at any distance further then 27 yards
-It is illegal to hunt deer in ON with a rifle "south of the French"
-One requires something with the word "super" or "magnum" in it to kill a bear
-Rifles can only use ammunition from the same manufacturer they are from
 
Hunting privileges will not be watered down and eventually completely stripped away from Canadian citizens, just as they are being done to firearms right now.

A Remington trigger is not safe and can cause the rifle to fire even if it is unloaded.
But because Remington's are so inaccurate, the bullet will only then strike unintended objects.

I can not count the number of times that I have heard that one. If I go to the range with a Ross, It seems that people tend to move back away from me, and when I fire it, they seem to expect a smoking crater and only my toe nails left there.

Is that the secret? How did it take me this long to figure this out?
 
Something that irritates me is that when folks compare military rifles and hunting rifles, then frequently make the statement that there is no sporting use for the modern military rifle. I suppose that's true if you discount ease of maintenance and repair in the field, having both durability and reliability in harsh environments, being no longer or heavier than is necessary, having high quality back-up iron sights and a capacity for conveniently mounting optics, being chambered for cartridges that are sufficiently accurate and powerful to perform the job for which they are chosen without becoming unmanageable, having a good trigger, and having all the controls intelligently located. Those elements define the essence of both the modern military rifle and the modern hunting rifle.
 
A bullet doesn't reach full velocity until its at least 25 yards from the barrel
A cartridge thrown into a fire will fire like it was in a gun
The typical hunter can easily offhand a deer at 500 yards
An AR can fire 650 rounds a minute even though it only holds 5

Agreed, I would never recommend a Remington, especially the most recent manufactured rifles of any model. For the past 18 years the Remington's have been grossly lethargic in quality control, in particular, safety issues. However, I believe that they are a good rifle (Model 700) if a person wishes to build around it, convert it into a custom. There is a multitude of after market parts, at fair price to complete a custom rifle without breaking the bank.

Not really... I am sure there are errors in that vast website, but in general it can make everyone more knowledgeable.

Here is an old myth...

When shooting a scoped rifle the bullet rises and crosses the cross hair twice...
