CZ Pre-B & Post B magazine differences

Okay fellas, how would one identify difference between pre-b and post b magazine?

I have a few mags marked CZ-75 9mm Made In Italy, yet I can't even remember if I bought them as pre-b ones or regular B models.
Body width? Notch height from lips? Distance of neck taper from feed lips?
 
Not sure if this helps you much. I had a Pre B 85 Combat made in 1988. In order to make the newer mags work I had to dremel out the mag well area just a bit. Once this was done the new mags worked as well as the two that came with the gun. This suggests the newer mags were a tad wider than the older versions. If you bought your mags new then they are the newer versions. I know of no one who sold pre B mags as new. I am not sure when the last of the Pre B versioons were made. I know mine was sometimes referred to as a transitional model. The older mags work in the newer guns the newer mags won;t work in the pre B era guns unless the magell area has been altered.

Hey Bob,

You just need to relieve the corners of the mag well correct?

I found that current CZ branded 75 mags worked in my Pre-B 75 while the OEM one's did not.

I suspect the only real difference is the corner radius on the back of the mag.

Mine required taking some of the material from sides of magwell to allow newer mags to slip in and out comfortably. Mostly at the entrance, some towards the top end also though.
 
It has been quite awhile since I did the work on my old gun but if I remember correctly the edges on the inside of the magwell required a touch with the Dremel. The bottom of the magwell in the corners seemed to be where it got caught up the most. I suspect you just will have to feel as you go along. I won't take much to get the new mags to fit.

Shucks, I didn't have a Dremel so I used a round file in the magazine well.

To answer to OP's question; the leading edge transition to the sides of old magazines was rounded whilst the new magazines have a more square transition. The magazine well on the pre-B was of the same configuration as the magazine requiring the profile to be altered to accept the new magazines.

Tell me about it LOL. I've scr.wed up more things with my Dremel than any other tool I won. It only comes out on very rare occasions now.

Oh boy! The plot thickens: I compared some Pre-B's I got recently with a Transitional 85 and some MecGar Antifriction, and I found that the Pre-B's were a triffle thicker but the MecGar longer, supporting a recent thread I read somewhere about the need to (lightly) file the back of the magwell.

Pre B refers to CZ 75 pistols sold prior to the use of a firing pin blocks. Production changed to the use of firing pin blocks about 1987/88. Along with the use of FPB's came a slight redesign of the magwell. What clouds the issue are guns known as transitional models where you get variants of frames. The 85 Combat I had, had the newer trigger guard design, the older magwell shape and the round dovetail cut for the adjustable rear sight. Some removal of metal along the sides and bottom of the magwell solved the issue. The only reason why I sold the gun was the round dovetail cut precluded purchasing different sights for the gun.

Hey, I may have picked up your 85 from Gunnar. I traded a pre-b 75 for one. What do you mean by "round dovetail cut "?

Mine was a 1988 CZ 85 Combat. The version I had, had a round dove tail cut for the rear adjustable sight. Rather than the standard cut like a dove tail the cut was round as was the base that held the sight.

Mine appears to have a traditional dove tail. Where do you find the manufacture date on these things?
