Winchester M70 Safari Express in 416 Remington magnum or Ruger M77 African in 416 Ruger...both are priced the same, which would you choose?
Thx

Tough choice. I have a 416 Ruger Alaskan and it's an excellent rifle (once the trigger is fixed) for all-weather rugged use. I also have a 416 Rem. Mag. Zastava LKM70 full stock carbine. A bit more case capacity with the 416 RM. Nice thing about the 416's is the wide selection of bullets including a VLD - the 340gr CEB V15 MTH which is stabilized by the standard 1:14 twist rate and has a 0.78 ballistic coefficient.

I'm thinking I like the ruger more. ..feels better in hand...nicer blueing ..nicer wood. ..comes with brake, cap, and brake weight. ..plus dealer offered 10% discount!
Decisions, decisions!

My first choice would also be a 416 Rigby. But of those two, 416 ruger would be my preference.

This is tempting...

CZ - 9.13 lbs. Model 70 - 9.0 lbs. Ruger - 7.8 lbs. The down side with the 416's is the weight of some of these. Pack a heavy one up the mountain. Gets heavier as the day goes on. Also balance could be lacking.

My 416 RM Zastava Carbine (20" barrel) isn't exactly lightweight at 8.6 lbs scoped, but has a balanced feel.

...bought the ruger....

Nice choice, congrats! Sourcing brass, bullets and dies shouldn't be a problem. Your LGS likely has/can order in dies.

Brass example: http://store.prophetriver.com/hornady-416-rug-50ct/

Dies example: https://www.amazon.ca/Hornady-Specialty-Die-Set-RUGER/dp/B0028PON9O/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1522423717&sr=8-4-fkmr1&keywords=hornady+reloading+dies+416+ruger

Took the rifle out yesterday. ..I like the way it handles and shoots but it feeds terribly.
Unless I ram the bolt closed hard it has probably a 30% jam rate with Hornady 400 gr DGX ammo. The ammo will feed to high to the left and jam the bullet into back of the barrel instead of into the chamber but only when feeding from the right side of the mag. Feeding from the left side of the mag is good.
As it stands now I would not want to take this rifle hunting for anything that would be considered dangerous game!
Anyone else have this problem?
