I can often see my Dad's 260 Remington "move the air" through the spotting scope on longer range shots and a couple times I've been able to spot my own 17 hmr through the rifle scope in the right conditions.

For sure, watching bullet swirl through a scope positioned directly behind the shooter is a good technique for spotting. Works best in humid conditions.
 
Heres a contentious one for this board

Some post '64 model 94s are ok

Hear me out - I own an early 70s Model 94, and while the finish is awful, the accuracy is acceptable and functionally it is perfect. It has never let me down trudging through the thick brush and kills deer a plenty.

Here’s a fairly famous rifle bullet misconception.
A rifle bullet can pass through a persons neck and wrist and turn around in mid air while travelling fast enough to still shoot a president in the head whilst being a passenger in a moving convertible limosine.
 
Your thing just reminded me of one that happened to me! I had a bull$hitter at the gunshop when i was having a scope mounted tell me that "you can make longer range shots if you mount a high scope" He looked like the kind of fudd that would sporterise a lee enfield.

Strictly speaking, he is not completely wrong. A higher scope will give you a slightly longer point blank range, in case you go in for that style of shooting. The higher scope needs to angle more acutely downward to intersect with the bullet trajectory; this steeper angle keeps the line of sight closer to the path followed by the bullet once it has passed the sight-in distance. I'm not saying that this is so desirable that I would mount my scope higher; all the other reasons for mounting a scope as low as possible are completely valid, but this is one of the few positive aspects of a higher scope for some folks.

If you are actually paying other people to mount a scope on a rifle, you should at least consider other opinions in case the other guy actually knows something you don't. :)
 
I wasn't paying the fudd. I was paying the guy behind the counter at the gun shop lol. And the main reason for that is because I don't have one of those torque screwdrivers.
 
Not sure if it’s been said so far but - you can shoot into space ! ( still one of my all time CGN fav. Threads ) next is a .22 isn’t dangerous after 100 yards . I watched a video of a guy shooting one at a 5lb Roast at 300 m that was wrapped in Jeans (old pants) and then wrapped in duck tape - complete through and through .
